I'm so not up to the skill level of the people here but I love this board and I'm so inspired by your work. I figured, what the heck. Can't hurt and maybe some helpful comments or ideas might float my way. Thanks for taking a look at a newbie.

I had an interesting week in my drawing class and I thought the outcome was kind of cool so I thought I'd post some of it. The first one here is pretty standard halloweenish crap. I spent the most amount of time on the Pumpkin as you can see and I let the rest go to the wayside. LoL The second image is one that I did today and I swear it's actually a still life! LoL This kid brought in a halloween mask and the teacher put it up for us to draw, along with all the other useless class. The asignment was to make the objects seem as if they were moving. I don't know if I really got that but I wasn't too concerned with it. I was more so drawn to the bad azz freakin' mask and I just had to draw it. I thought it turned out pretty wicked and some kid told me he'd pay me 10 bucks if I could get him a copy. LoL Ah, felt like middle school again. Just thought I'd share 'em. Sorry the image quality sucks. These are way to large to scan so I took a digital picture with it. I've had some nice stuff come out of this drawing class. I'd post more if the camera would take in the graphite and stuff better. Comments and critz appreciated as always.

i'll reply

first off... its not about skill level, but how much the work is full of soul. =)

i really hate to crit people's stuff cause i'm such a nice guy, so i'll just give you a few suggestions...

i was noticing some of the smudges on your drawing... like for shading. are you doing those intentionally or only when your drawing hand goes over it when making another mark?

if you are doing them intentionally... how bout using the edge of your pencil lead to shade instead of smudging. let the pencil do the work for you, not the other way around.

how do you draw? do you just start drawing on the final piece when you start out? or do you make preliminary markings first? its always good to learn how to draw loosely first, then get tighter towards the end. you don't HAVE to, but its a good way to learn skill. trust me on this... i used to be a firm believer that its good to always be tight and never loosen up. when i did become looser, my drawings became soo much better.

anyways, those are things to think about... then again, i could be waaaaaay off. you never know =)

nice work

not too shabby.. it looks like charcoal.. thats the only reason i think it could be smudged but i dunno..

lasupaman: Thanks for the comments and suggestions. I appreciate you taking the time to help a newbie. These were done in Charcoal and I was sort of rushing parts of it because I was trying to finish it before class let out. But I think I'll keep in mind the idea of trying to let the charcoal do the work. I'm also going to try to be looser and first and get tighter towards the end as you suggested. I think that would help me a lot. I just need to take my time planning art rather than just jumping in a making it happen. Thanks a lot for the help.

Killer Napkins: Thanks a lot. You can see some of my other stuff over in the sketch forum, I've got a post in there somewhere. LoL I'm actually from Fenton, do you know where that is? Maybe we should get together and draw sometime. I don't have many art friends out this way and it's always nice to have someone to inspire me, etc. Shoot me an email sometime or talk to me on AIM. My instant messenger name is ZRSBNETZ and my email address is rbowlin@studioyume.com. I look forward to hearing from you. You never see artists in these forums from STL so it's good to see. Take it easy, bro.
