Hey I am a first time poster here and am looking back for some feedback on this sort of tribute to September 11th.
This is a compilation of 6 photographs from that awful day, and I made this in Photoshop. It took nearly two hours, and I am looking for some feedback. Thank you in advance and I look forward to joining this community

I apologize for the poor image quality, but I need to find a good image host. I had a hard time clearly displaying all of what i wanted to in the following image but i meant to make a face, a fireman, and the second tower visible in the midst of this chaos
[EDIT] Reworded the above paragraph.. sorry for disrespect :(

what are you trying to say?
Aussie428

trying to say in my picture or in one of my comments?
its just a tribute and i tried to toss a bunch of pictures together and illustrate the chaos and horror of the day

I would suggest finding another subject matter--this is a little too recent. I don't mean to be rude or sound angry; it's just my suggestion. Unless this event has personal significance such as you were there or you personally lost a loved one.

its just
Never, ever, say a piece of your work "is just" somethingorother if you want it to be taken seriously (which I would assume, considering the subject matter, you do). If you start out dismissively towards your work how is everyone else supposed to act?
i tried to toss a bunch of pictures together and illustrate the chaos and horror of the day
"Tossing a bunch of pictures together" does very little to "illustrate the chaos and horror of the day." This is the sort of technique that tends to work better as a photo montage, and even then is awfully hard to pull off well.
When you deal with such historically and emotionaly charged subject matter you're setting yourself a task even the greatest artists often fail at. Turning it into a glorified game of "find the hidden picture" is just trite.

thanks guys... i made this because i nearly lost my best friend... if for any purpose i made it for him... sorry if i sounded frank and i appreciate everything you have posted...
as far as "find the image" i just wanted all aspects of the picture seen, because as a new artist (especially in this genre) i am not sure if all things would be noticed.. im in no way talented compared to you and am sorry :(
once again thank you

I didn't see this thread before you edited it Aussie, so i dont know what was said. Im sure it wasnt meant to be disrespectful. But anyways, I like the picture. Obviously you didn 't spend two hours on this pic to offend some folks here. Good job on the pic and im glad your friend is OK. ;)

Your level of talent doesn't make any difference in this particular case. And never apologize for what you have or what you lack in terms of talent. Mmmmm'kay? :)
If you're doing this for personal reasons (as you stated) it would be a good idea to point that out when you first post the pic (or show it to someone). If not, then you'll get a polite but cold reception (at best).
I got the part about you wanting to make sure things in the pic were seen. I've created stuff where people missed something I put in because it was obscured.
Objectively, I think the picture looks good. But, like I said before, kind of a touchy subject for a lot of folks, even today. You have to anticipate that when you post a 9-11 pic. There are a lot of people who will use this tragedy to gain notoriety or, say, sell a bad song. I don't think you're one of those people but it's an easy thing for people to assume.
Keep going with your work!

yessum what is it that you find funny here, sorry but i find you to be insulting and a bit of a ass. this is a subject i would not touch with a forty foot pole, for many reasons, one its two bloody painful for a lot of people and two im Irish and not American so how can i truly understand the emotional grief ( i may have known people there but i feel that this does not count and if i did a piece i feel i would be false and to removed from the subject matter to offer a good insight) . but to ridicule with no reason is a bit week and lacks honour. this person appears genuine and the responses are honest and decent by good people. if you give a open ended statement , support it if its going to be so negative over a visual montage ( no matter how unfinished) of a defining moment in world history . all i can say is to the artist at hand do ut but take time to think about the message you are tying to convay, so far all i see is the destruction., i see no face of the human spirit that highlighted this dark hour in western history

Aussie,
I'm sorry about you friend, and I'm glad it was an "almost". Thanks for the background. In a piece like this intentions count perhaps more than usual. Never the less, strong feelings don't necessarily translate into strong art, and can sometimes even get in the way.
I think you've simply bitten off more than you can chew. We're all familiar with the images from that day and the days and weeks that followed. They are incredibly powerful, and there's little as artists that we can do to improve them. Documentary history has its own strength, and it's strongest unadorned. If you want to make art about 911, show us what it means to you, to your life, to your friend's life. Tell us part of the story we haven't seen before. The specific can be universal. Good luck.
Oh, and Yessum,
You're not.

as a resident of nyc, i feel for ths pic. but the only thing that REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY bugs me is the tower.... on the left. the towers didnt... explode midway... the way your pic is showing it is the thing broke midway and toppled. not sure if i'm reading the pic wrong, or youre trying to exxaggerate..

your left side of the picture is good but the right side needs something more to balance the picture out. Even if its the top of the second tower just peeking out of the grey but it needs some thing to bring your eyes back into the page

lol sorry people. i wasnt saying the picture was funny, i like the picture. i was saying that the posts were funny. at first it seemed like people were attacking the artist and were offended by the picture in the way (im probably wrong about that.). then when the artist lets them know that he ment no harm in anyway about the picture everyone starts to say "oh its ok, you didnt offend us, its a good picture" and blah blah. its all good man i didnt mean to hurt or offend anybody either with my post, i just thought the other posts were funny. yeah ok, so will you forgive me now? probably not, probably will still think im an ass, but life goes on and the world is coming to an end so just ignore my comments.

bgermain: Why should any artist be restricted to what they create? One of the great things about art is that it challenges people to think, and challenges them emotionally. And for you to say "pick another subject" to aussie, like your the dictator of art, frankly pisses me off. Even if he was to make a "Where's Waldo in: The World Trade Center!" and you have to find Waldo in the rubble, you still wouldn't have the right to say that to him. And, his piece wasn't in anyway disrespectful. I don't know if this subject is very sensitive to you becuase of your own experience with towers. But, from what you said it seems like you just want to forget the towers even fell at all. If you want to be ignorant like that, go ahead. But please don't sit there and try to censor what people create.

Anarchy: In the same paragraph you manage to defend Aussie's right to free expression while stomping mine. This is a forum for posting your work and soliciting the comments and criticisms of others. As long as responses are polite and respectful and pertinent to the subject (as mine were) they are fair play. If my remarks pissed you off then you shouldn't be visiting a board like this.
