View Full Version : So! How 'bout that swatch set?

Like many, I'm sure, I recently watched a photoshop painting video.

I'm not interested in the brushes used, I can make any brush I need. What I do find interesting is the swatch set.

It was a full color wheel with a few tints and shades for each hue. Rather than try to build the set myself, I was hoping someone might have one to share, or perhaps know where I can get something similar.

Also, as a final note, don't suggest I google it. As of recently, any google searches at my house never load. (A problem I am trying to remedy myself)

Sorry to bump this thread but I didn't want to make a new post out of it. Whenever I load these or any color swatches into PS (using CS3), the placement is off. Meaning all of the colors are just dumped flat out onto the swatch, not arranged as they're meant to be (in a color wheel or otherwise). I tried googling and using the help file but I couldn't find any solution to this.

With some of these swatches you have to undock it, grab the corner for re-sizing, then push and pull until the "wheel" pops in to position. Have you tried that?

Wow, I can't believe that's how you do it lol. I was thinking it would be an option "preserve swatch locations" or something. Thanks a lot amigo

Yup, very primitive, but it works!:)

What I like to do is just create a few small color palette files that I open in another window to color pick from. It's just as easy as the swatch palette, but offers a lot more flexibility.

For example, here is the file I open when working in greyscale (I like a warm greyscale, but this could be desaturated or the hue changed to be cool or whatever). It doesn't take up much space, and can be made smaller very easy (I often like it at 50% size). I have it designed to sit open at the top of my screen, but you can easily make something similar to fit your work habits.

You can color pick from any file, so why not make your own color wheel to use that has a lot more color options and use that instead?

Yeah a image file works best than having the swatch list double as a color wheel.

Here's one I've found while googling, CMYK color wheel.

Portus, cool looking wheel. I modified it to make a color selector that's a little more versatile.
