backgrounds definitly not my hotspot, so bring them on :D I'll be away for a few days so will catch up with the workd when ic ome back.
Arteater: lovely! just really dark on my screen, might be my settings.
Marsc: cool angle, I was thinking of crying eyes too.
Mytze: fantasic work, top notch skillz.
water eater: nice work on the chrome look, bit confused with the top, looks like a UGO hitting him and splashing into fire?
sachmidt: thats epic looking though equally confusing.
Mine is not that inspring really. The village is locked into deadly mountain tops, but the globe has pierced holes in it that drops water during certain periods, that of course what keeps the villagers alive I guess.

As always, frustration and enjoyment go hand-in-hand when working on these.
Enjoyed seeing everyone's different take on the topic.
EDIT: Spent more time on image to try and improve quality.

I ended up with something that steered away from the literal tears. Not sure I like it, but I tried out a lot of photoshop tidbits, so not a completle loss.
(I put a post-it not on my tablet- I need to stop using saturated pallets as a crutch)
Arteater- Awsome, I really like your take on the crying eyes,
marsc- I thought about the crying eyes as well, You did a great job with the tears
Mitze- I love the tone and atmosphere, beautiful
watereater- I like how you did a humourous twist on it, and I love all the little details you added
Brett_Schmidt- Wow, I would love to see a color version of it, if you get the chance, it has a lot going on, I want to know what happened there.
Hamorhage- I like the texture and lighting on the first one a lot
Vigilandus- another awsome take on it, I love how you added the figures interacting with it

hamorhage, liking the textures and thick colouring style on your pic. interesting take on the bg story of the piece, as well.
arteater, kinda dark for my monitor. but great ominous, silent atmosphere.
mitze, <3. love the tone. love dustiness and the lonely desert feel.
watereater, ... donno why but your work evokes feel of distress.... and the sphere looks anguished...
brett, ... somehow i kept thinking of biblical things when i see your picture. fallen angel. and the impaled sphere... it's very interesting. would like to see this coloured.
vigilandus, i like your solid forms. and the whole scene reminds me to a snapshot or a postcard.
hamsta, rainyrainy. the sphere reminds me of a giant dismembered robotnik head. i like the raining atmosphere. but the bunch of tent looks only vaguely tentish...
browntear, saw the progression, coming along nicely... the colourful tents seems very festive
commanderswiss, your picture has very many colours. i cant really work out whats going on... but uh, get a feeling of rushings of energy lines going everywhere. zzzzzzzzzzaapzzapzap.

marsc vaguely tentish? totally.
(filed under distant architecture, in the to learn list)
Wow, that crying sphere is sooo creepy. It's the eyes. The distance between them, the way they protrude, the uneven height... all leads me to believe the sphere has down syndrome. ><
The fish eye perspective is a bold choice, and so is the palette.
The tents are a little too cartoony, and lacking a definite light source.

hamsta, lol, you're right, it probably has mental disorder of some sort. probably repetitive excessive crying has been detrimental to its faculties :>
and yes. i needs much help with the tents (actually, all sorts of backgrounds)
thanks for crits

Mitze: Cool interpretation. I liked the small sphere, and it stands out from the dusty tribal village.
This one took me a long time. I tried to play around with different textures as well as cartoonify the people. Dunno if I'm all satisfied with the result but here it is. Criticism please.

Interesting how the topic is bringing in such diverse results. It's really open-ended.
