If I were a shapeshifter I think my biggest concern would be getting stuck in the middle of a transition. What if your shapeshifting gland wasn't fully recharged from the last time? What if it broke for good in the middle of a shift?

my thought of it was, someone who reflected the idea that he was always having to be someone he's not. and never being accepted as who he really is. life sucks.

DivZero- If you know photoshop, then you can also try to work on developing your brushstroke/ color sense.

I was intimidated by this topic... but here we go. Some kind of demon shifting back to demon from human form.

woohoo! 4 for 4! Here is my rendition of a shapeshifter in its primal form. It remains ghostlike until it dispatches and replaces its victim. Something to think about when you you are all out on Devils night (Oct. 30)- the real evil night. hahahhaha (evil laugh)

Man, nice work for this topic, i was too imtimidated to do this topic, but i love what everyone has done.

Velo, nice transition, good facial features in each pose.
William B. Hand, love the translucent look, very alien.
DV8, love the medieval look.
Hunger Artist, simplistic, but very good, love the humor.
Carlo_Julian, I love the way you made this one, very good, my favorite for this subject so far, just love how you worked the body into the desk and the lamp, and the idea of spying on a cheating spouse is a very neat idea.

Great work everyone, i have been doing the DSG's, just not posting them because i dont have imidiate acess to a scaner, hope to be posting soon though.

My Part 2

A little bit of explanation for my creature:

I hypothesize that a shapeshifter might share amorphous aspects with the octopus, but would also need a frame to carry it around -- a skeleton that could also shift. My solution to this problem lies in an osteo-circulatory system that would transport small bony fragments around the body to where they were needed, and then these bony bits would temporarily fuse together to make coherent weight-bearing structures.

The ability to change form would have innumerable applications, including evasion of predators, trickery of prey, fording varied landscapes, and the creative expression of thoughts/feelings through visual and tactile morphing.

So... That was the basic thought behind this :)

I put the skin/highlights on it while involved in a lengthy telephone conversation... so it was slow going, and also took more time than is probably acceptable here, but oh, well what's done is done.

william bh: cool sketches. the second one looks very finished.. like it ! =) i'm also a little taken by the whole rationale behind it. i wasn't sure i wanted to do a sketch for this topic because i thought it was so hard to define - in my mind anyway - exactly what something like that would look like.

it got me thinking anyway. wohey!

all the best

that's really cool William! I finally got a chance to look at the boards and I saw this and I was sorry I missed today. It looks great and I especially love the technical explanation. I always love that added reality to concept work. Good job. -Rocky

Oh, and Plaf- I thought your piece was really cool too, I like the colors and the life that your pic has.

thanks! :)

i'm not sure how much it fits the "shapeshifter" though.
maybe shadow-mummy would be more appropriate, but then .. who's to say what a shapeshifter looks like, right? :)

all ze best.

The thread came a little too late for me yesterday, so no sketch of mine today, but honestly when I see what has been posted I couldn't add anything more original... good work everybody! Especially respect to William

William.B.Hand -> Thats a kickass rendering you got there. Would it be too much to ask what the size you are working in?

plaf and Rockhead - Glad you like bothe the pic and the reasoning that formed with it :)! The rationale just sorta came to me as I was creating it... plaf, I love the style and energy in your piece!

Gouda boy - Thanks! Hope you got some sleep :D.

OLSEN - Thank you! The size I was working in was typical for my DSG endeavours... (about 2.6 inches wide by about 2.1 inches tall / 3oo dpi.) So... I just work on it the size you see it on your monitor. Sorry to not see one from you today!

devilbunny - I seem to be grossing you out a lot lately :D! Where's yours?? :(

danielh68 - Thanx! I dig your pics... I see you took the same "The Thing" tack that I did :) .

Carlo_Julian - Great one!

davi - Where are you these days?
