I wonder what the copyright status for these lost scenes are. I'm sure they'll be restored and sold somehow. I have Metropolis in my DVD collection. It has some amazing-surreal-sexy scenes, like Maria dancing.

From what I've read, the footage is not in very good condition, but viewable. The most recently restored film used subtitles for the missing pieces based on the original script, so the new pieces should fit right in, apparantly there's still one short scene missing.

Here's a German TV segment (http://de.youtube.com/watch?v=vq2Uc61YRMY)where you can see some of the footage.

The footage requires quite a bit of restoration. There's some viewable on Aintitcool.

dbclemons - Edit:we overlapped. :)

Edit edit: I watched The Island the other day. Some of the scenes of the city in that look to be almost duplicates of Metropolis.

Apparantly (http://www.thedigitalbits.com/mytwocentsa158.html#mrb)Kino is planning on releasing a Blu-Ray and DVD copy in 2009 that should include the new footage. Yipee!

This is awesome. I was just debating buying the Kona version with those missing scenes at least explained in text where they are missing.

Great movie!
