What's up, board? I'm not anywhere near the caliber of the people on this board but I'm so inspired by your work. I just thought I'd post up a few sketches and see where it went. I'm sure it could be very helpful being as we all have to start somewhere, right?

I spent a good deal of the night sketching so I thought I'd post a few pages from my sketchbook. Nothing to great or lovely but some random doodles and studies anyhow. I have this odd idea that I'm improving though. And I've been playing with perspective and stuff too... not in any of these images sadly. But I've been workin' on my skillz. School's helping too. One major problem I seem to have is I'm way to rushed feeling while drawing. You'll notice that a lot of 'em seem really sloppy and just rushed looking. I seldom take the time to get it all right and nice looking. So if anyone can help me, then by all means. Any critz would be great. I guess more overall critz because I'm not going to be working on these in particular anymore. I dunno. I'm rambling and it's late. I do this every damn time. LoL

http://www.studioyume.com/dump/sketchbook7.jpg: This one is something I did for school and partly just doodlin' around. The chick is part of this three page sketch study I did of an artist for figure drawing class. So yeah, I've got more of those but who wants to see my copies of famous paintings and such. LoL They are really helpful though. But in my quest for drawing I've noticed that I lack value skillz. We're gonna try to work on that. The skull there is something else for figure. I've got a couple pages of skullz and muscles too but I figured no one would care for that either so yeah. Next page.

http://www.studioyume.com/dump/sketchbook8.jpg: Actually was considering finishing this one. But the proportions are off and I don't really care for it much anymore but I totally dug it while drawing it. I really need to work on clothing design and folds thoguh. Ick. I need so much help in drawing.

http://www.studioyume.com/dump/sketchbook9.jpg : Naked chick alert!! Playing with markers again. Proportions are off but it kinda looks neat. LoL Jus' some doodles.

http://www.studioyume.com/dump/sketchbook10.jpg : Crappy anatomy studies turn into a little samurai. LoL I can't stop drawing the ninja dudes lately. I've been reading Blade of the Immortal and then Kill Bill rocked my balls off... LoL

http://www.studioyume.com/dump/sketchbook11.jpg: Some inspiring art on this board inspired me to do some photo reference work and here are few nifty little sketches. Some turned out quite nice. You can really tell which ones I started drawing and got bored with. The other ones look nice. Note the wicked witch of the west in the top of the page. LoL It started out as a man! Ha!

http://www.studioyume.com/dump/sketchbook12.jpg :Ugly and yet wonderful in it's mullet rocker greatness. This was my "warm up page" tonight. LoL Kind of turned out interesting.

http://www.studioyume.com/dump/sketchbook13.JPGHere's a study of some of Hiroaki Samura's work from Blade of the Immortal. The guy is just awesome. 'Nuff said. If I could draw like him I would have completed my life's goal. LoL Again you can tell what I spent time on and what I didn't. Only a couple of these are copies though. Copying takes patience and I lack that late at night so I started doodlin' again.

http://www.studioyume.com/dump/sketchbook14.JPG And last but not least my Shaft influenced doodles. LoL No comment and yeah, that jacket looks tight. I need some help on how to work on the clothing designs and folds. I need to practice that stuff. ACK!

Thanks for checkin' it out. I know that was alot of crap. I appreciate you takin' the time.

hey man, you've definatly got talent,

my only advice to you is to draw EVERY DAY as much as possible, and to soak up everything you can, from all the artists you can, just make yourself as informed as possible, copy paintings, read artists theories and treatises etc. but keep going, all you can do is get better...

Wow, thanks a lot for the encouragment guys. I'm gonna be giving it my best shot, that's for sure. There's a ton to work on. I just figured posting on this board could only help me in the end. There are so many fantastic artists here I can't help but be inspired from post to post. Any other comments and critz would be great. And thanks a lot for taking the time to comment on a less then inspiring artist. :)

Like the others said, you show some talent and you're on the right track. The only things I can tell you are to keep practicing for one. Secondly, try to start using structures under your drawings like your cylinders, circles and cubes. It's hard to make yourself do that if you haven't before, but the advantages are worth it. Finally, it's ok to copy some of the time (if you give due credit), but don't focus on it too much. I copied for a long time and got to the ponit where I could almost duplicate something perfectly, but when I ventured away from that and started my own thing.... I had to relearn a lot. Copying doesn't teach you alot of things you need to know, only how to copy a series of lines to make something look like something else.

Keep it up!

The sketches are great, but I just love the little phantom-hampster looking guy peaking out from and jumping on people. That's made my day! :inlove:

Thanks again for the comments! I was afraid no one would comment here because I'm a newbie and lack all the skillz ya'll have so much of. LoL I appreciate you takin' the time.

WeirdWes: Thanks for the comments and tips. Yeah, I was doing the understructure thing for a while I sort of got away from it. I still do an "understructure" just not the full one with cones and everything. Per your comment though I've already got several pages in my sketchbook full of nothing but figures made with cylinders and stuff. I can see how it helps foreshortening too but I'm having a difficult time placing in the muscles and stuff after I've building the structure of the figure. Do you have any pointers or resources I can look to for help? Hands are also a trouble spot for me. I also seem to be having problems with hips and legs. ARG... I'm so in need of more practice. LoL Thanks again.

GirafeEnFeu: Glad you liked 'em. And yeah, that little dude... whatever the hell it is... he just shows up when I get into my doodlin' phase of drawings. I start getting bored and he shows up. Maybe I should draw a larger version of him and flesh him out more. Maybe then we'd see just what the hell he really looks like! LoL

Thanks again for all the help and encouragment. You guys rock!
