This is form an open canvas session. Its obviusly not done but i threw on a little bit of shading for fun. i need help with the colors, and apprently there are soem ass issues. ANy help is apprciated.
I reapeat: not done.
And odnt ask me whats up with the shoes becuase i have no clue. :p

Hmm.. for the colors I would say definately get rid of the purple glove. It stands out like a sore thumb and doesn't make sense in the context of a soldier. The other thing I wanted to mention - you should try to hold your hands like that. his posture makes me think the hands would be relaxed, but he would have to be flexing his little thumb something crazy for it to be so visable in profile like that. I think you would either see most of the palm and inside area of the hand, or the thumb would be more obscured by the fingers. Just show that the palm and fingers are passing in front of it should help.
Also, It might be cool to have the light source hitting his back. Having the front of him dark would make him look more dejected, which I think the pose conveys. :)

Preliminary sketch on a re-draw. Sorry for the awful quality; the paper really sucks and its auto-leveld so you can see it.
