Before we start, I'd like to say a few words about Michael Turner...
Super star comic book penciler Michael Turner tragically passed away on June 27th. Michael was a great artist and more importantly, a very decent and considerate human being. I'm really gonna miss the guy...
Rest in peace Michael...

Man...I had no idea he had passed away. Thanks for that post, and for starting the thread Mahran.
I'll try to post as much as possible, and would encourage all to partake in the P.O.W challenges. Since comics are made of panels...it only makes sense that aspiring comic artists (or storyboard artists) take part...even if you have to put up with a barking mad cat! :ilaekae:

You learn a lot in there even if you are getting your butt whipped. Criticism is shared rather liberally and, more importantly, every time you think you've seen it all somebody posts a page that blows your socks right off. Ilaekae gave out some great technical info in the Read This First thread, as well as linking to some nice digital templates.

Mahran, welcome to P.O.W.!
Let me know what you wanna do and we'll help y'get it started. Why not start a few pertinent threads and I'll move 'em to the sticky area so we can keep 'em going long term. Maybe one on methods, genres, etc., and shit like that. I'm going to be starting one on reproduction in the next couple of weeks myself. It's one of the reasons I wanted this section set up in the first place.
This applies to anyone interest in serious discussion on sequential art of any kind.

Thanks a lot bro! I do wanna start another superhero challenge next week, be it pin ups (like my spiderman challenge) or sequentials, still not sure. I'm gonna take a nice long look at the panel of the week threads and have a chat with the7artist7 then take it from there.
Thanks again and I'll definitely stay in touch...
cheers :rocker:

so i just entered a piece in the Spidey Challenge, and thought since this is the comic art area i should post something related i can't really post there... it's a Spider Girl portrait done in the style of a Russian Icon painting, though heavily cartooned by me.

If we're still talking about comic books, my boyfriend bought me Kingdom Come the other day.
Now, I know absolutely nothing about comics. I dont know anything about superheros. But that was the COOLEST thing I've ever seen!
The gouache work is amazing.

Dudette, you have very good taste! That series was painted by Alex Ross, one of the best in the biz...

Sweet, thanks, mahran.
Now when my boyfriend brings me to the comic shop, I can actually look for something instead of standing around like an idiot, haha.

I'm new to art and comics. I've never really read anything else than Donald Duck and Asterix. Any recommendations for a beginner? Genre or style or what have you doesn't matter. Quality does.

Spiderman and X-men are probably pretty safe bets. If you really want something special, pick up one of J. Scott Campbell's trade paperbacks, either "Danger girl" or "Gen 13". In my opinion, Campbell is still the best comic book penciler on the planet.

A recent thread has a list of "best" comic graphic novels here (http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=125089). There's some decent variety in it.

Anything done by Adam Hughes is good in my book!

His cover art got me started on the Catwoman series by Will Pfeifer, David Lopez, and Alvaro Lopez and I really want to get my hands on the latest Wonder Woman project he's working on.
Does anyone read 'Fables'?

Fables in fantastic. Vertigo is a good company in terms of quality across the spectrum.

Pretty impressive track record.
