This may seem like an odd question..but its something that has had me scratching my head for a while now. In painter X ( IX too if i recall correctly) there are various brush tip profiles- some of which dont seem to be selectable, nomatter what brush is being used. I used to think that perhaps they could only be used for the 6D art pen and well..mine came in the post today, and these mystery brushes remain unselectable.

The painter help file doesnt really do much to answer my query- anyone know what they are for and how they can be selected?

EDIT
oh duh, im quite the spaz. they work with realbristle. delete this mods ;_;

ALH,

This has nothing to do with the 6D Art Pen, just specific brush categories, brush variants, and in some cases, the RealBristle palette's Enable RealBristle check box being enabled (checked).

The bottom two rows of Brush Profile icons were introduced in Painter IX to be used only with the then new Artists' Oils brush category.

In Painter X, the bottom two rows of Brush Profile icons can be used with brush variants in the brush categories listed below.

NOTE: Per Painter X Help Topics, when the RealBristle palette's Enable RealBristle box is checked, we can create RealBristle brushes from any brush variant that uses the following Dab types: Camel Hair, Flat, Palette Knife, or Bristle Spray.

Acrylics (some brush variants, when the RealBrisle palette's Enable RealBristle box is checked)

Artists' Oils (all brush variants - the Enable RealBristle box is not available for this brush category)

Art Pen Brushes (some brush variants, when the RealBrisle palette's Enable RealBristle box is checked)

Gouache (some brush variants, when the RealBrisle palette's Enable RealBristle box is checked)

Impasto (some brush variants, when the RealBrisle palette's Enable RealBristle box is checked)

Liquid Ink (some brush variants, when the RealBrisle palette's Enable RealBristle box is checked)

Oils (some brush variants, when the RealBrisle palette's Enable RealBristle box is checked)

Palette Knives (some brush variants, when the RealBrisle palette's Enable RealBristle box is checked)

RealBristle Brushes (all brush variants, whether or not the Enable RealBristle box is checked)

Smart Stroke Brushes (some brush variants, when the RealBrisle palette's Enable RealBristle box is checked)

Sumi-e (some brush variants, when the RealBrisle palette's Enable RealBristle box is checked)

Tinting (some brush variants, when the RealBrisle palette's Enable RealBristle box is checked)

I didn't check each and every brush variant in the default Painter X Painter Brushes brush library, so you may find others that can use the bottom two rows of Brush Profile icons.

Oh! thanks, how very useful :). Ill have to play about with those tomorrow. I havent really used realbristle much before today- the grip pen feels really weird with them to me, especially with the advanced brush ghost switched on. The 6D pen has REALLY helped me get my head around it all.
