RE: The Most Awesome "Types" of Painting?!

Dear Forum,

Well I don't know how many variants of "Gothic" there are but
I am assuming I'm gonna here about All of Them!

Impressionism is my Choice and once you list all the "Blade"runners
Then I'll agree to choose one!

Now That's a Deal!

These threads need to stop. There is no "best" anything. There is no magic wand to wave and say "this is the epitome of art" in any form or facet.

Also, all these threads are doing is surveying public opinion, there is nothing to be gained by posting them. You will not learn how to be a better artist, or how to grow intellectually. If you wish to be exposed to the finer pieces in the art world, ask for that. If you wish to see which masters lived and what amazing things they did, then ask that. If you wish to know the diversity of genre, then ask for that. All of this can be in one thread, and is unnecessary to create multiple threads.

This is my very serious response to this, and the rest of your "What's the best _______?" threads.

What's the best way to hang somebody?

By the ankles, nuts or neck?

I'd do a poll but the type there is too small for me to read how to do it...

If we're looking for a tortuous sort of death, then the Roman crucifixions were particularly well thought out. They even put in a foot rest of sorts to better support the weight, y'know so your hands don't get ripped from the nails which would end your torture prematurely.

But the Forum says Art Discussion, Dude?!

You best be trollin'.

I used to believe that nailing was invented for effect, and that they just used to tie their hands to the cross? One of the reasons being so they don't rip off from the weight, and also so they don't bleed to death quickly so they can be up there for longer. I guess a snug foot rest answers the tearing problem, though.

There's more to a discussion than just firing off meaningless questions faster than you could read the answers.

But if you insist, then I'll be a good sport and play a round of ball.

I also have a great fondness for the Impressionists. Generally speaking their paintings keep true to the form of their subjects while exhibiting a daringly interpretive expression of color, which I admire.

Who me? Somethin' like that, just posting what popped into my head when I read Ilaekae's post. Perhaps some thoughts are better unspoken? :)

I don't see why there couldn't be multiple ways to skin a cat (or stick someone on a plank). I got the foot rest from the origins of the Eastern Orthodox Church's three bar cross icon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_Orthodox_Church#The_Cross), but I could see rope being used in cases where they wanted the torture without the fatalness that nails would bring.

Oh I see. Ah and no, I didn't mean you. It was directed at SethBedeBG, because all his topics look like chain e-mails. :spam: I'm thoroughly interested in torture. :D

So...should I be worried about you, too? It took me six months to get Chance to stop eating live mice...

I've heard that people were actually crucified by being nailed through the wrist, between the radius and the ulna, not the hand.

This way the nails wouldn't rip through. The nail through the hand makes for better mythology though and a more iconic image.

You sound just like my 7yo. What’s your favourite food, colour, etc, etc? It gets tedious and you're not as cute as him. Instead of continually posting new threads, try joining in others.

With a foot-stand, I think either hand or wrist would work. Without though, hand would be right out and wrist... well dunno if it actually could hold but it at least has a ballpark chance unlike the hand.

But yeah, I've heard that claim too, that it was actually done with the wrists and was conceptually changed to the hands because it would be more iconic.

Anybody know of an archaeologist that's dug up some wretched thief from the Roman era? Now I'm starting to get genuinely curious. :)
