Just wondering-- how do storyboard artists and concept artists paid for their services? Is there a standard? Are they paid per project, per board/image, or per day/week/month?

Thanks guys!

depends.

You can get hired full time as either of those positions in which case you'll be salaried.

You can get a flat fee to do a specific amount of work.

You can charge by the panel if youre a storyboard artist.

You can charge by the image if youre a concept artist.

It depends on the client as well. I've been doing quite alot of storyboards for short films and I've found that they only really need them to sell the story for further funding - so a series of 5 keyframes normal does them.

Whereas advertising agencies prefer to know how much per frame its going to cost so they can budget it.

I have a standard rate per hour to cover my expenses and reflective of my experience then base a quotation on that.

Oh yeah and do out a quotation form just so they know what they're paying you for - that'll stop them getting annoyed when you send out another invoice for their "oh and could you just do another picture for me" request
