Pictures from the fires in california - they're very surreal, almost like they're already out of a fantasy illustration.

Wow, thanks for these. They're incredible. Might I ask where you got these? Are they your own photos?

These fires are pretty crazy. I live in the Central Valley of CA, which is below sea level so all of the smoke has been settling here. Been hazy every since the start of these fires, it truly is surreal and that's to say nothing for the folks that live up where the fires are at!

these are awesome. the lone tree with the magma looking fire alone in the forest is beautiful.

Apparently one way to fight fires is to set up a fire break and then use a controlled fire to burn all of the flammables around the break to prevent the fire from jumping over. So presumably that's what he's doing there, setting a controlled fire by shooting at it with a flare gun of some sort.

Yeah ... I was wondering about that as well. I think what he may be doing is starting a back fire with a flare gun. But that's just a guess.

That's exactly what he's doing.

There were captions with these; I thought they were part of the images but I guess not.

Good lord; I've heard about the fires on tv and from family out west, but never saw anything that looked quite like these. Amazing what can happen on this planet; thanks much for the images!

I might be shipping off to help fight this next week. Thanks for the surreal insight into what I might be getting myself into. Beautiful pics. The one with the P-3 Orion flying by the house is unreal. That is a seriously dangerous maneuver.
