P.O.W.! Challenge 11-A
Deadline: Sunday, July 27, 2008, 11:59 pm anywhere in the world.

Topic: Strange Bedfellows

Now that DEEP is over, it's time to get this mess back on track. First, the Giant Bugs theme got buried by DEEP, so I'm going to repost it again at some point in the future--which is why this Challenge is labeled "11-A.". There is a major change in how we'll operate -- the Challenge will be posted late Sunday night--Monday morning at the latest, and will run THREE WEEKS with NO overlap. This seemed to be a problem with a lot of people, and hopefully, the extra time with no overlap will give us a better chance to do something a bit better than quicky sketches.

A bit of clarification for those of you unfamiliar with the term "Strange Bedfellows" -- it comes from Shakespeare's The Tempest ("Misery acquaints a man with strange bedfellows." It was spoken by a man who has been shipwrecked and finds himself seeking shelter beside a sleeping monster. It's often used in modern speech as a comment on strange political alliances. You can interpret any way you wish, and the more creatively, the better. Any media. B&W or Color.

You can present your solution as a minimum of TWO to a tentative maximum of SIX pages which adhere to standard comic specs as below...and, yes, you can have the first or last (or both) as a splash page if you want. You can go to additional pages without asking if you have a decent idea that requires it--just don't get too extreme on page counts

Standard Comic Book Size:

--Trim size: 6 5/8" x 10 1/4"
--Live art area: 6" x 9"
--Bleed size before trimming: 6 7/8" x 10 1/2" (1/8" in all directions)

Dunno bout comics, but I assume it's the same as graphic design.

Bleed=Total size of paper
Trim=Size the paper gets trimmed down to
Live Area= Safe Area- All text should be contained within this area

I've been doing comics for a few years, and recently work and life got in the way and I completely put it aside. Now I really want to get back to it, and POW is a great way to get those storytelling muscles pumping again.

i was scrolling down the page and wondered if no one would go with the original meaning from shakespear - sleeping. not That sleeping... thanks for strengthening my hopes :) Also I really love the artwork; will browse by at your sketchbook...

Besides I don't like the excessive nudity in the upper pages. Not that I'm square, but I think it's wrong on a page, every little boy could stumble upon when typing in the name of a video game in google...

I like your story chate, can't remember where but I've seen that story someplace, I think in a movie...maybe it was Band of Brothers? You may not have seen it, but it shows something like it. It may have been that codetalkers movie too. I've seen all the war flicks from the past decade or so...

I'd love to do comics but I suck at it. It's one of the hardest thing to do. Well, not to suck, I mean to do comics. You really need to master everything, and I don't. I guess the only way to learn is to get into the fray.
