UPDATE UPDATE: I added the final version of "Double the Booty" I won't be fiddling with her anymore.
UPDATE x 3: I added a new Pin Up. "Mile High"

All three paintings are for sale on my etsy... here (http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5464509)

"Double the Booty"

6"x6"

"Ridin' Cowboys"
Acrylic Painting on Wood

"Mile High"
Acrylic Painting on Wood

Mile High is a Pilot, not a cop. Don't let the boots fool you. ;)

Working on a mini series of 2-3 pin up girls.
Any crits? I'm always looking to improve my paintings, this is my 4th one. *since I've been out of college... a year and a half ago*

I've uploaded the sketch as well.

Thanks for looking. :)

Its fun and simple! Theres not alot to crit on seeing as you've opted for a cartoony style, and are obviousally going for something a bit 'chibi' esque - the only possible thing i can think of is that the hair doesn't seem to quite fit. Thats more of a personal opinion rather than an observation - i think i would have opted to keep the smooth rounded edges for that feature, as opposed to the more angular look.

CA.Org member Steph Laberis has quite a similar style, although i think all of her work is digial, check it out: http://www.conceptart.org/?artist=Steph+Laberis

Its fun and simple! Theres not alot to crit on seeing as you've opted for a cartoony style...

NEVER assume that simple-looking or cartoony means that there's nothing to crit! Saying more with less is harder to do than painting every rivet on a space marine's helmet. [/rant]

That said, I think the sketch has a more clear gesture in her rump because the value of her hair's shadow in the painting is blending with the belt. Her lovely back looks lost! I would lighten the shadow a bit rather than darken it, that way it would recede the hair more with a lower contrast and pop the figure forward. Also, if you're gonna use stripes (which I loooooove to do!) then get as much mileage out of them as you can! Really cling those shapes to hug the form of her legs, they appear stiff and as quarter circles rather than the half-circle shape I would expect to see in the contour of a leg.

I like that you chose the purple BG to bring out the oranges in her skin and hair, makes her appear all the more firey. This is one of your simpler but definitely more successful pieces in the series. I'm enjoying seeing these progress!

Serpian: Sexy Pirate bodices ftw!
ibbo: "Its fun and simple! " thanks, I try really hard to use as few lines as I can. It's a lot of hard work. There is ALWAYS something to critique, it has nothing to do with my choice of style :P ;)
And of course I'm familiar w/ Steph's work! She's awesome. :)
Steph: Yay! Simplifiers Unite!
I did what you said I should do and it works a lot better now, I'm posting it after I post this. I thought the purple would make it pop more and I'm glad I was right. And thank you so much, I'm really pleased with the way these paintings are starting to look and I look forward to growing more as a painter.

hey this looks nice, i like it, i hope you dont mind but i did some quick adjustments in ps incase you wanted any suggestions, not saying they are improvments just something you might want to try

i made the shorts darker because i thought they were too close in color to the skin added some highlights to the hair coins and treasure chest and gun, i also took out the left shoulder because at first it looked like a 3rd breast to me and i liked the color of the hair and i changed the lips to it too, good work thought im liking these smaller paintings,

Mike:

Thanks for the AWESOME paint over! It was really helpful. I took your advice on her "third boob" aka shoulder and the shorts and hair. Personally I like her pink lips so I left them that way. Really appreciate your help!.

Im liking the new update (Anyone else seeing Dolly Parton in your cowgirl), and just to clarify - I only meant that i liked the piece the way it was, not that there were no crit's to be made :P ! However, whilst some of the changes you've made do improve the piece (i.e. the removal of the 'third boob' as Mikeorion22 pointed out) i think that its edging closer to that thin line between too much detail, and just the right ammount. What i liked about your first revision was the charm that the clean and simple shapes gave, but by adding changing gradients of colour (i.e. on the corset and hair) i feel that its lost its direction slightly.

As Steph pointed out, its very hard to "[say]more with less", and over complicating a painting (digital or otherwise) wont necessicarly make it better! Still, i think there both great and cant wait to see more!

Sorry for one more paint over, but I think Steph's suggestion about the belt blending into the hair wasn't addressed, and I think because of it, you are losing the line of the rump, which, because of the title, might be the most important line in the pic. I added a highlight to the belt to devide it from the hair and the continue the line of the rump. See what you think.

chuck18mp: Thanks man, I plan on it. :)
ibbo lol Dolly Parton. I was just going for sexy and curvy. I changed the gradient back on the corset to the way it was cause I didn't like it either, but I like the hair and I'm feeling like I'm finished fiddling with it.
Robert.B Yar, I'm glad you're diggin' me booty! haha pirate joke.
NathanLong Thanks for the paint over Nathan. I agree with you on the belt so I changed it.

Tomorrow I'll be posting the last one for this series. A pilot girl.
This way I've got one for land, sea, and air. :D

Thanks again for all your helpful crits and tips guys and gals!!! <3 <3

Hmmm... There's something wrong with the cowgirl.. The hips look as they're much closer the the viewer than her upper body. And her left arm doesn't quite work.
But I love the legs and boobs! I mean boots! I said boots, not boobs!!

Serpian: I think it was her shorts, I fixed it, and I'll upload it soon. :)

For now, I've added the last pin up for this series.
