Montenebris' Space 'n' Spice (Sketchbook)
Having had highly creative times as a kid,
my interests in visual arts and expression
went into a state of virtual hibernation
when I went to college,
except for my occasionally beefing up my
presentations, seminars, lectures and meetings
with little doodles on the whiteboard
or in a ppt file. Which the crowd acclaimed –
not because the pictures were excellent but because
most people can't /won't draw at all.
My college and graduate years were before the
times of the visual internet, virtually everything
was letters and numbers on blue screen then,
and art communities were not even thought of.
I remember staring in awe at small stamp-like grainy gifs displayed
in the first "graphic browser" software, Mosaic, on a 15" monitor
(Interested? Wiki for "browser wars").
One day, some two years ago, I stumbled into a few anime fanart sites
during an extensive internet search (these days, no matter which
keywords you're using, your search engine will be hitting
at least one anime site).
I can't remember why, but it was then that I started drawing again
more often -- for the fun of it, not just to illustrate a point,
and I started posting stuff at www.animexx.de.
For me, grasping IT was never a problem, so, besides
using traditional media, I indulged in PhotoImpact,
then Photoshop, and helped myself to a wacom tablet.
People are nice at Animexx, but most of them are very young
and inexperienced, and you don't get the help
and encouragement needed for moving up to a higher level
of proficiency.
Eventually, Algenpfleger lured me into CA, and here I am. :yayca:
Here is my first 1-hr-speedy, 2 ships landing on a planet,
no reference, but inspired by "Raumpatrouille Orion" (Space
Patrol Orion, a German/French scifi-series aired years before Star Trek
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raumpatrouille ),
and a photo of a huge tornado I saw a few days ago.
(the picture sort of belongs to my RPG Brinkmanship Sabbatical ™)
