SEEKING: A self-motivated worker full of imagination and enthusiasm; responsive to direction and suggestion but not dependant on it. Non or semi-professional; over 18 years of age or able to provide a parental or guardian's release. Someone with an interest in anthropomorphic characters, not desperate for the money(thinks what I offer is reasonable, considering my position) and perhaps into gaming, particularly the heavy tactical shooter RPs and/or Racing genres. Favoring detailing to at least a reasonable degree and capable of rich, unique characters in a semi-Realistic style. An aspiring writer/conceptionist looking for a highly expansive, in-depth and long term project might be nice too. I prefer you are working on several other projects currently or have plans for others of your own conception; must have depicted at least 5 different characters of your own conception, preferably more than 10 of differing species, as examples ~ please provide me either a link to your gallery or send me the examples via e-mail if they are private. You will be considered based on your skills, style, imagination and the deadline you suggest, balanced against the pay you expect and the conditions you request.
Desired Product: Median and/or high detail, full body sketches to serve as master references for playable characters in a present generation, "next revolution" Fantasy/Racing/Strategy/Anthro genre video game ~ console/Limited MMO undecided ~ rated from E10+ - T/M. Invested time/effort/supplies per ~ circa $20-40; 10-20% pay-as-work per, +$2-7 additionally per in lou of revisions which might be required; remaining value - according to the terms and conditions you agree with me upon - to be realised upon my pre-closure of a development contract or post-closure of a publishing contract with a third party company. I will not require the physical originals, should there be any, just visual files sent to me privately via e-mail.
Immediate Purpose: These character sketches - in the form of either printouts or computer files - are to be used almost immediately as a key aspect of a pitching package being crafted for the game in question, to be sent to corperately parented and private gaming developers upon their request.
Legalities: If you desire to publically display these character works, then you will have to physically/electronically mark each one something like this: "Entailed by contract for exclusive usage in connection with the Out Rigged Project(ORP) and its universal commercial parent, the Centriiost Universe Project(c) Mathew E. Losefsky". However, the safest measure is to send me the e-file copies of them privately with your full copyrights noted properly on them. Any rejected characters will obviously remain fully yours and may go on display wherever you choose. And once you have privately entailed a character to the ORP, you can then upload s/he to any of your galleries you desire, provided they are marked with no more than copyrights on the Art itself and that you do not layover text concerning the backstory/statistics of the character.
Understanding: The Gaming Universe for this series is the same as that of a semi-animated webcomics/graphic novels Universe also in continual development at this time - yet unreleased/unpublished. Hence, all characters you may produce for me will be understood to be interchangable with other commercially intended productions set in the same Universe, specifically the Centriiost Universe; you will find me immovable on this one point alone. Should your characters be used in such other productions in any sort of role, you will be entitled to compensation in keeping with their use.
Races: You will be creating - mostly freestyle - up to 48 characters of 12 different races/sub-species, with various builds, statures, ages and gender. The races have been largely decided, but the specific sub-species thereof are open to your preference. I imagine six decided by myself and six by yourself, my six with general regard to your skills and preferences. The aim is variety themed for mass appeal. AMEND: At this point, I have been advertising elsewhere for over five days and it looks like about 30-36 of the characters are sowed up by interested artists. That leaves 12-18, possibly more if an artist falls through the contract or exocution stage. The choice of sub-species is now also closed, to be determined by me.
Your ART: remains fully yours unless you receive the compensation you desire, which will be agreed upon before commencement of your productions. However, the acceptance of my money will automatically entail your work/characters to any commercial projects I deem fitting and if you wish to annul these entailments I will require full reimbursement of all the monies I pay to you, plus a 5-15% percent of the assets you realize on each such character's commercial use elsewhere in lou of entailment reserve severence compensation(ERSC); I shall also reserve the right to refuse the ERSC and retain commercial usage rights to those characters you produce for me which you entail to the CUP and accept any compensation for. Each sketch you upload to any public online galleries or which you send to me, will be marked by yourself as follows or very simularly; Art(c) to yourself, (Your characters)(c) to you, (My characters)(c) to me, All races/sub-species(c) to me. You will be free to name your own characters with the proviso that their names may have to be altered or completely changed. I will be naming all the sub-species which are based on real animals; you can name those - mutants, fusions and crossbreeds - which you may invent. I must also be allowed the right to craft the prime backstories for each of your characters in harmony with the Gaming Universe in question; I will need your permission to lay backstory texts over your character works, as well as racial, sub-specie and vital statistic overviews and to redistribute where, when and how I desire, with regards to but not limited by your approval..
My Role: I will provide a basic list of animal species you might work from and discuss the nature of the characters with you, suggesting all sorts of design conception aspects, from clothing to jewelry, fur styling, markings and general physiology. For the little money I can offer as compansation for your work, I feel that ours should be a partnership in general favor of your convenience and preferences. I will provide the backstories and gaming role for each character, yours and mine, but after I have crafted a backstory for each character you will have the option to craft one for each of your own which will replace the ones I craft; thereby you will be entitled to greater compensation and I will have my own backstories which can be applied to the next generation of characters for the Expansions.
Style: the style you work in is not so important as the general physiology, stature, build and overall design concepts for the characters you produce, including clothing/uniforms, body art and piercings and natural and unnatural physiological modefications. Anything special should be sufficiantly detailed and at least the head physiology should be very distinct on the basis of Realism(See additional post immediately below) rather than Anime or Cartoon. Disembodied detailing sketches to convey important physiological aspects will be welcome.
Medium: according to your skills and preference; if you go traditional, then you have the pysicals to hold. I will require good digital files for public promotion and private pitches to gaming develpers.
Freedom: For the most part, character design will be your choice and the characters will be yours. Where I request a character, s/he will be mine and where I make suggestions for a character's design I will expect them to be at least seriously considered, if not honored.
Revisions: I would like the option to have one or more revisions done for a certain percentage of the characters you produce.
Rejects: Where - on the off chance - I absolutely hate a character you produce, I would like to reserve the right to reject s/he as a part of the character cast, without paying for that work.
Schedule: I am looking to have an artist begin work on these characters within Immediately-2 weeks. I do not believe in rushing artists, so there are no firm deadlines. However, I DO like things as fast as the next employer and to have all the characters finished within 2-3 weeks of commencement is most preferable; I expect a skilled and imaginative sketch artist with some free time could turn out the entire "set" in less than a week. Your work may commence when you are satisfied with the terms I offer as they are amended or changed, by yourself, to your needs and preferences. AMEND: Tentative deadline now 2-3 weeks from 7/06 for 12-18 characters.
Planning: A general outline of the characters you wish to do is desired before you commence work, but is not manditory. Outline will include Race, Height/Build, Age, Gender and any special physical features you might have in mind to experiment with.
Pay: Up to $480 - pay-as-work present - for the rights to submit all 48 characters as entailed to the game production in question, provided that you are satisfied that up to an additional 300% should be paid to you in exchange for the full copyrights you hold to the characters with the exclusion of the actual Art, this to be paid post-pitching when a company moves in for development and production. Possibly a 1-2.5% royalty will be paid to you on the developer's share of the original release version of the game; royalties on Expansions are a possiblity, but the death changeover for this gaming series is quite high - about 45% for the original release. Characters to be used for story missions will be worth more. AMEND: Now $120-200 for 12-18 characters. Assuming wide interest by many artists, title lines of initial contact e-mails sent should contain a bid estimate of the lowest initial pay-as-work compensation rate you will accept; first five received considered primarily, with obvious allowances for - not unreasonably - lower "bids" which follow, preferably before Friday evening at 5:00(EST). A low "bid" will not solely determine your chances of serious consideration, but my budget IS shrinking, so I do need to find a balance.
Negotibility: All terms of this opportunity are reasonably negotiable.
Counter-offers: Will be very seriously considered but a 50%(20-24) production of the playable characters cast at no more than $250 is most desireable and it will be most preferable that you find a partner artist to work with who will produce the other 50% of the characters under roughly the same terms as you yourself argee to. For anything over $500 for all 48 characters by one artist, I will insist on a 2 week deadline and full options concerning revision requests.
Contract: I have made most of my desires known here and I require you to draft an overview of the terms you agree to and any counter conditions and clauses you may choose to insist upon; don't worry about it if you can't make it sound legal enough. We will thereafter work it out, back and forth; I think you will find me quite reasonable. I will then print out the contract, sign and date it and send it along to you for you to sign at your leisure upon receivance; I do not expect you to start work - at least, not to show me anything - until you have the contract in your hand.
