This is a color sketch for a painting I want to do. It's my depiction of the time when Michelangelo and Leonardo went up agianst each other in an contest of who could paint the better battle scene. Unfortunatly neither of them finished beyond the "cartoon" stage. But the cartoons influenced so many artists aftwords that they were called "The School of the World". Well that's it for the history lesson.
I did the artists from memory. I think Michelangelo is alright, but it doesn't look like Leonardo at all so I'll be changing that. The angle of view seems kind of boring to me too so I'll change that a little in the final as well. I also want to put some more things in there to make the scene really come to life and really feel like a window looking back in time, but right now I just can't think of what might be there.

This is looking really good. Great story to set a scene in, lots of energy involved. Unfortunately the picture doesn't really convey too much energy for me. Mike's pose seems a touch artificial. If he's flying around in a fury, he's gonna be flailing his arms around a bit more; pointing, shaking fists, etc. If I didn't see the anger in the face I'd think "Hey, Marlins won the Series." The face works really well but doesn't really connect with the posture. You may want to consider moving the background guy's head out of there too, as it confuses the scene a bit and breaks up the connection between the two main characters.
When you mentioned changing the pov, my first thought was to lower it down and look up at the two men. Then you'd get a juxtaposition between these two great men and the base emotions that they shared with the lowliest peasant. I dunno, maybe I'm just making stuff up now, but that was my first impression.
I think this scene has a ton of potential and it looks like you've got the talent to pull it off dramatically. Good luck with the final piece.

You have some really good points there, especially about Michel's pose. I'll add that to my list of changes. Hopefully, the energy will be more prevelant once I put more details in the scene and fill up a lot of that empty space and have the verticles going to thier own vanishing point rather then being parallel.

Was I the only one hoping to see two turtles duking it out with nunchuks and katanas?
Very nice painting. I agree with a lot of what Severian had to say. I can't think of much more to add, you seem to be on the right track. Can't wait to see how you pull it off in the end.
