so my friend gave me his backyard walls to paint a underwater scenery

and i dont know what kind of media to use

his walls are made out of this stuff

http://www.blackfordfamily.com/uploaded_images/DSC05723-726138.JPG

its like a pink and very very rough cinder block

its actually the same length as in that picture of how much i have to work with

im really dont know what to use?

krylon spray paint?
household paint? (just worried the paintbrushes will get chewed up by the wall)

i was thinking of putting something over the wall and drawing off of that

or if i do use krylon i can create stencils, and work it out

any other ideas i could use thanks

hmmm... I'm no expert. My suggestions - you can paint acrylic on just about anything. The only real consideration, other than if the blocks are crumbly, is fading in the sun. Try and find some cheap, sun resistant paint. Probably, whatever they sell at Home Depot for cinderblocks would be good.

And to save paint, do a graph drawing first.

I'd use an outdoor trim enamel meant for constant exposure. You're talkin' a lot of costs here, because you'd probably need a gallon of every color you use, and five or six of some colors...all mixed special. Use cheap big brushes. They WILL self-destruct. And I'd definitely find a good quality white(?) wall sealer that wont chip or powder off and lay a couple of coats on the entire wall. This will help cut the roughness and porosity down a good bit when you finally put on the colors. And whatever you do, think more "Illustrator" than "Photoshop" when you plan the art if you know what i mean.

haha, nice! I'm picturing an 8-bit underwater Super Mario Bros. map (I can even hear the music) but I doubt that's the direction you're heading.

and yes on house paints

The most important thing will be priming the concrete properly.

I had a feeling when I read the thread title that you DIDN'T need everyone's advice. Just a couple of people. Maybe next time a better thread name?
