Your site takes a little to load. I like the layout how ever you could do the same thing using flash and add many more features.

Nice to finally put a face to some of the animations in LOTR 2 towers. Kick ass work man and keep up the good work. Did you guys also do work on Return of the king?

wow. congratz jason!

i wish you guys a lot of success.

one note: the table holding the menu items spreads to 100% of the screen width instead of being aligned to the left.
right now, the background image is on the left side of screen while the menuitems are spread in even distance across the whole screen.
i'm using opera 7.21 and a screen res of 1600x1200.

Its massive and black but is it a rooster or cock...or both?

either way great looking site, easy to navigate and obviously easy on the eyes.

Hope to see what you're working on. Wow its a scarey idea of all that talent working together. I'd loves to see you guys get a project and do everything from concept design for a game or movie and then go all the way to a toy line for it!

anyhow,

looks great.

Awesome Jason...definitely very very inspiring. It's a big risk and a lot of work to go out on your own like this...I commend you for doing it...it's something we all want but few of us go after it...awesome.

In 2 - 3 years I will have finished at my atelier...my wife said she wants us to move back to Texas after I am done there as well. I'm sure when I get to Texas I will see a massive company with many employees pumping out some sweet games. Keep it up man.

thanks everyone...it is so much hard work starting a studio...it takes an open mind and a lot of learning...and it takes willingness to be up all hours all times in the beginning....but finally being able to show a few of our things is very fulfilling. we have a lot more great stuff to put up. keep your eyes peeled this week.

back to work for me....thanks again for all the support.

I could post countless OMG! OMG! but instead I'm just going to say; That site has some of the most mindblowing art i've seen on the internet. With the all the talent you have over at Massive Black I expect that you will set new standards for the gaming/film industry.

and since we're wishing for titles, I'd like to be "Mr. Will get an internship at MassiveBlack in 5 years" :D

October 27th, 2003, 11:35 AM
thanks!

we are sure gonna try to do a good job. Ive worked with some great teams...the best being at black isle with justin sweet and puddnhead and andrew jones and john dickenson and vance kovacs and pete meihuizen and aaron brown....that was a strong group...though we had some..uhm...weak links...ie untrained people who were hired because they knew someone there etc...we dont have any weak links at massive black..every artist is an ace. i feel very fortunate. we are also very good friends.

The response has been very good. We are already in talks with studios regarding game titles and feature film fx..as well as our in house project. The kind words and support really help to keep us going in getting this company launched. Thank you all.

This is incredable! One look at the website at the great wealth of incredable artwork gave me goosebumps! You guys are a force to be reconed with! I think you're right too in your mission statement. Not just about videogames needing a higher level of artistic merrit but popular media as a whole. It's good to see firms being developed that deal exclusively in the creative process. Artistic definitions of fineart and popular art need to be blured more. Art is art and whether the intentions behind it are commercial or private, it's still an expression in which a message, emotion or idea is conveyed. Companies like this with ties to the entertainment and publishing industries have a lot of influence when it comes to subtly including the general public and demographics who might consider themselves alienated from the so called "fine arts." It's great to see so many avenues for creativity being opened up. This is reassuring as it let's me know that there are places for people studying paths in art as I am and that when I graduate and have my degree in three years, industries could be more receptive than they are now. The result, I believe is a culture that can appreciate art more than they even know. In short, more power to ya!

awesome site, i'd just suggest one thing,

in the copy when you cite the stuff u've worked on... sounds awesome till you hit 'BILL AND TED'S BOGUS JOURNEY' and 'CATS AND DOGS'.

ack!

i think the big names listed are um, big enough and don't need the help of bill and ted :)

Jason Manley
October 27th, 2003, 04:44 PM
we think its funny that petey worked on bill and teds....come on man...BILL AND TEDS KICK ASS! hahahahahah....yikes is right...were not ashamed of the projects our boys have created for.

the cat animation of hatalas at the end of the film section clips is tight as hell. Not many animators that can do that subtlety.

It has to do with a student showing excellent skill during the workshop gets the opportunity to work with your company as a intern or something like that...

Well.. so... you went and took the cream of the industry and made a company!...well played Jason Manley, well played...I shall then collect the not so good and the plain terrible left over artists that are not good enough to be in your company, and we will form our own studio!! we will call our selves "Insignificant White" and we will flood the industry with the so so the ho hum, the best of borrowed works, and over filtered lense flared vertions of work we find on concept.org!.
...OH ya...I know your shakeing now!..we will hire fraudulant masterminds as company presidents by the name of Chris R and Sam B and so forth to show the fastest ways to ripp of the concept world,

We will maintain a mysterious image with code names for all of us involved(yes thats right already ripped you), names like MR. no contrast, Mr. cant draw feet, Mr. no its not clipped from a photo, and MR. Its clearly Spinefingers arm attached to another borrowed body that I reversed the colors on.

Of course thats all when I find time between eating my own danddruff...

the obove was a joke...
I totaly dig every aspect of your massive project, and for see
imminent success! :) :chug:

If you need a spineless lackey/boot lick or just someone get your coffee and take your verbal abuse please choose me!...please :)

I work in Austin too, at Retro. I'm glad Massive Black is working out. It's good proof that things are starting to pick back up in Austin. From what I saw on your site, there's some good talent joining together.
