Hi everyone, my name's Alex, and I've been a long time lurker here at CA. Thought I'd stop being lazy and actually start a sketchbook here. I'd love to hear any feedback!

I'm currently scanning some newer drawings, so I'll start with some older stuff I did.

Here's a few recent drawings I did, including some studies I'm currently doing by Joseph Sheppard:

Thank you for the reply, a la bapsi! Yes, those Meowth drawings are probably one of my most favorite projects I've taken on :D

all of the sketches are done in pencil, except for the second one with the girl laying down sleeping. my scanner doesnt get the quality very well, so i had to bump up the darkness in photoshop.

I suck so bad for neglecting my sketchbook :(
Here's some figure drawing I did today. First is 1 minute poses, the rest are 5-10 minute.

Hey all, I'm on my fall break from school so I've got time to scan and post stuff. I'll try to do this every other day during my break.

Since you so kindly came to visit my sketchbook, I thought I would come visit yours! Cheee, you have amazing skills, friend. You seem to have a handle on form, shade as well as composition! Such greatness.

I have indeed been studying from books to draw from and hopefully increase in skill. :) Bridgman seems a bit too stylistic for me, I really want some accurate portrayals of anatomy and the human body, rather than of fluidity, which I think I can master if I just keep doing gesture sketchings and etc. I found some really nice ones in the library, but unfortunately I forget what the book is called, or the author!

Ah, and... Though you seem to have a handle on all of the skills that I seem to lack, your lovely poses seem to have a slight stiffness to them that I can't quite place. I would recommend scribbling out some gestures and just 'feeling' a pose, BUT, I have far to go before I reach your level of skill, so if you think I'm just being silly, I understand. XD You're really great though, honest!

Hey man, its me Dennis, finally you update. You got alot of cool stuff here, lots of variety. You're going in the right direction! The rooster looks great!

Heres some crits, on that grayscale character the small thumbs look great, but the character standing on the right is a bit out of proportion. Here legs are really short right now and for her body the head seems huge. Her thigh narrows in too early, it should go a little farther. Right now if you measure the character by heads, she is around 4 heads high, try to make it at least around 6 or 7. The character in your thumbnails is about 5 heads high and that seems more right. 4 heads looks a bit awkward.

Try to focus on faces, I think its one of your weaknesses, right now some of those loomis study drawings look a bit distorted so keep studying those until you can do it right.

Most of all, you have to do studies everyday, even if you don't feel like drawing that day. Give yourself at least a hour, because even an hour will help, to nothing at all.

Stay focused and work hard! Keep it up man!

Darlene: Thank you for the critique! I have to agree with you on that, I will continue to push harder in making my figures less stiff :)

Agelaos: Good to hear from you Dennis! I was expecting you'd drop by eventually! Thank you very much for the critique! I've always had trouble with the head and face, particularly in different angles. I'll watch out for proportions and continue my practices everyday.

Nice sketchbook you got here. It's cool to see you working hard and pushing your skillzz over the break. I can tell you go to AiS from that rooster study, I noticed some students working on something like that when I attended the concept art club one day. Post more stuff and I'll try to keep an eye on this thread. Good luck!

Na I think those charcol life drawings are good man. If anything just keep doing them, youll figure out different methods the more you use the medium. I cant think of any particular tips to give :(. Keep rockin though, we got like 1 more week right? We better, so we gotta work extra hard.

ya kyle start doin them studies and postin.
