THE SPIDERMAN CHALLENGE



The7artist7 and I, both being complete Spiderman freaks, have decided to set up the Uber-Amazing-Spidey-Challenge.

TOPIC:
Draw Spidey being uber awesome! simple as that!

The7artist7 also wants to say:
"One thing is i don't want people to feel stressed or under pressure to make technically super amazing art (of course this is more than welcome!) but I do want contributors to make an effort - my main thing is to have at least one thing dynamic about the piece be it colour quality, pose, action, angle, expression, energy... etc Fresh, Fun & Expression being the key points!"

SKILL LEVEL / PARTICIPATION:
Anyone can join and compete, all levels and styles are welcome. Use any medium you like. Just one entry per artist, no WIPs please...

TIME FRAME:
Sunday the 13th of July is the end day. Post your finished piece in this thread. A voting thread will be set up and anybody can vote starting Monday the 14th of July...

JURY:
Artist who gets the most votes wins (duh)

PRIZE:
Bragging rights of course :muscle:

I may be in for this. No idea if I'll go for a fully rendered thing or just a sketch. Does it have to adhere closely to the spiderman we all know, or can we do anything that even remotely involves a superhero with spider-like powers? IE are complete re-imaginings allowed?

It does have to be Spiderman tho, but you can do 'im in any style (comic, cartoony or ultra real). He can be wearing any of the costumes he's had over the years as well! Anyway, mega cool thread you have there. If you set up a second round, I'll definitely be in :yum:

Yep it's gotta be recognizable 'Spidey' - don't let that restrict creativity though, we want to see your take on the webslinger hero! It can be pretty much anything from a super cool pose to fighting the gigantic yarah-narg ninja warriors from warana-ga-ruhu!

Would love to see some humor and fun, and remember - Uber awesome! :D

So how we all doin? Any ideas in the pipeline? - not asking for you to post any WIPs here though as I'm kinda thinking it'll be best for now to just post the finals - what do people think?

I have a couple but ya'll have to check my sketchbook for any sketches and ideas in progress - may post some soon ... for now just some random Spideys that may or may not resemble part of my piece for this challenge!

Hey welcome Gr4f :D we will be doing further challenges and I don't see any reason why there shouldn't be one as you suggested (possibly not under the Spidey challenge series but would be easy to start a comic characters series :) )

Asatira - aha you have brought up a question that has been sneaking around at the back of my mind for a bit now - I feel as this is a Spidey (as in a nickname for SpiderMan) challenge I wouldn't have thought SpiderGirl would be true to the theme which is specifically 'Draw Spidey being uber awesome!'

Having said that SpiderGirl is also awesome and I think it would be cool to do a challenge for her as well under the Spidey series :) SpiderGirl and SpiderWoman would be cool to include. :)

If you were posting a 'final' for the challenge I would say use advanced options and attach your submission as you would with your own sketchbook :)

As for your submission ...hmmm old pics - not sure if that really goes with what the challenge is all about (very cool pic though!)... hmmmm kinda cheating methinks :raised eyebrow:

Would be cool if you could enter something new - even if it is only simple it only needs one element at least that is 'uber' so doesn't have to take ages! (if you can't submit new, no worries but being old work will need to be taken into account with voting)

Hope you have more spare time/brainspace soon (God knows I need both of those lol!)

Aw - sorry to hear that - if you have an idea or even just a WIP please feel free to post what you've managed or a link to it. As I said at the start - I don't want you to feel stressed or under pressure - all it has to have is one element that is dynamic ...even if it is still only quite rough. I'll be voting more on the idea and imagination behind the image rather than finished quality (although finished quality will score higher if it has the same originality). This is more about having a laugh together and drawing some cool pics of Spidey and then voting on which we think is best - fun! :steph:

If you really must drop out then don't worry and see ya next time eh! Just relax have fun and enjoy the other submissions :D

Very nice, I like this a lot. Not "peter parker" spidey but very cool nonetheless! Loved the textures and flares u used!!!

Hey, all. So been chipping away at this between work and finally got a decent chunk of time to finish this up. I must say that this still appears rough in some areas which I may or may not go over, but for the time being, I'm pleased with the results.

So let's see. I've just finished moving to Toronto. I went to get some drawing done last night after finding this thread only to have the guys I'm living with all head out for drinks. 80 beers later I'm back home and dragging my ass out of bed at 1pm, groggily trying to motivate myself to draw. 1 coffee and a donut later I'm going along ok with a pretty simple spiderman drawing. At the moment I don't have a computer except for a billion year old hamster powered laptop I bought with me on the plane. I bought one tiny pencil and just by chance had a little eraser with it. After scribbling it on the back of a scrappy piece of paper, I went to use a friends scanner which borks big time on this laptop. Not only that but he was very close to going over his bandwidth, so I had to hunt down a Photoshop trail 50 years old just so it was small enough to download. So I'm trying to scan this thing in and the scanner and photoshop are freaking out with a multitude of errors, finally get it in and photoshop crashes. Turns out my laptop is so old as soon as it finishes scanning the image is to big for the RAM to handle. So I scanned it in 4 parts that the RAM could handle, put them together and went to save. Oh, great, the Photoshop trial wont let you save. Geez, this would be a great time for -

"Photoshop has crashed, do you want to report the error?"

OH FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. Scan it all in again (this time it only takes 2 parts, doh), copy and paste it across to MS paint, ok Photoshop wont even let me copy between programs. Instead I have to take a screenshot of Photoshop and move that across, which makes it tricky because my laptop for some reason runs in a resolution the onboard video card doesn’t support. This means everything is stretched to the side and the picture looks very fat. I've no idea what this jpg actually looks like, hopefully Spiderman isn't too fat. But I finally I got this image uploaded to the internet in it's scrappy pencil form. God, what a day :anime:

Sundance - I found your wips dude - super awesome skills and so much hard work gone into this - very impressed with the prelim work but the final doesn't really show how much quality effort went into it - still a lot of energy and movement and a really enjoyable pic - Nice one!

Boolean - aw dude! Havn't we all had those days - feel for you! But you still managed to submit a pretty cool pic considering all - love the choice of balancing place - unusual - and the pigons just add that little something! - I like - thanks (methinks your Spidey is expressing a little of your attitude after all that stress! - Grrr why can't something just work simply!)

Mahran: nice colours but MJ's forehead made me think there was a punchline of her being a man :x spidey's huge eyes made it look like shock more to me lol

Nthturtle: I totally giggled at that one. nice added comic details, we all know 360 players are all pot head smoking gaming men-spiders....listen to xbox live and you know!

Shutupyourface: nice. I almost wondered if that was a flash animation beginning, has that down stylistically that is used in flash a lot.

Hey, The7Artist7. Been a while since I've been back.

I've had troubles with this challenge. First I couldn't post my pic the way I usually do (thus the link instead of the pic) and now I can't seem to figure out how to vote.

That being said, I'm really liking your Spidey submission, looks like you put a lot of effort into it and its really working well. Kudos! It has my vote.

I'm looking forward to the next challenge, I already have an idea in mind, so what I submit will be brand spanking new.
