hello all, this is the first time i post here so be gentle :)

these images are concepts for a couple of in-game models. so far just suggestions for the team to evaluate. i believe that concept art for game modelers are to be clear. no "fancy" shadows or similar distractions (if its not there to show shape). i believe there are two main types of concept art for the game industry. one for production purposes and one for sales... the latter is the fancy stuff with mood and color etc. :)

anyway, here we go. i have a HUGE problem creating nice armor and/or detailed clothing for my characters, so if anyone of yous know a site or anything with inspiring stuff let me know.

btw, sorry for the bad quality. i dont have a scanner atm so ive used my camera... :P

So is this for a production game or to train and practice to your own enjoyment ?

Here's my 2 cents on concept art. The art needs are going to change depending on which team / company you'll be. For example ; if you work on a title that is going to take a year or more, you'll need to dish out mountains of concept art. From rough sketches to full colour renders (not necessarly illustration quality), turnarounds and model packs, environments design to mood shots.
Things are usually trimmed down on smaller projects due to time restriction of course. Usually rough sketches to try and find the characters that will eventually be approved by the AD and then model sheets for modelers or animators in the case of a 2D game.
I'll shut up now ;)

creating mood with shadows and color is often just as important an aspect of concept design as line work. The modelers need to know what the mood of the piece is, what color schemes to use, etc.

it's good you have your own ideas of what concept art should be, but that's not going to help you when your team needs sketches, paintings, color studies, etc.

oh yeah, and if you got 180 views and two responses then you're doin' pretty well. complaining rarely persuades people to comment fairly, if they comment at all.

as far as creating interesting and believable armor and clothing, use reference...study real armor and clothing and then make your own adjustments where you find necessary.

good luck.

oh yeah, and the modelers will probably want to know what the characters feet look like, ie. your first drawing.

i think youre all right in a way so im not going to argue. i agree :)

we have about 3 months to finish the game we are making from scratch so yes these are kind of hurried images. mainly to propose a style for some of the characters.

btw, the feet of the first dude got scrapped. nobody in the team really liked them anyway (style-wise) :P

no ruler was used on the images.

i take this, my first post, as a lesson for the future. concept art should me much more interresting :)

Well,

Perhaps the 180 views/0 comments thing was mostly because sketches should not go in the FInally Finished section. They are nice sketches but they are not finished works. In Sketches or WIP section you would probably get response since they are nice sketches.
