Hey everyone.

My name is Paul, im from South Africa, im 20 (21 in Nov) years old.
Im currently working as a modeller, for a architectural animation company (www.virtualscape.co.za)

Although my work is very interesting, and i believe its a good start, my interest is stil in drawing, and consept art to be more specific.
I have no formal training in the animation or art field, i studied one year on a DTP course, which taught me things more in the line of photoshop.

Now here is my problem, im not sure what exactly to study to become a concept artist, and im not even sure if there is a decent place to study concept art in SA. Also i have my doubts about finding work here in SA.
With all that said, it is stil my passion and natural God given talent to draw.

does anybody have any advice for me, or maybe some info?
Thx 4 ur time

Hey!

I'm an ex SAfrican by a few months... lol... but here's what i know from my atempt at finding art school there.

I was pretty much told that if I wanted to do art and I wanted to be in a Uni while doing art, I would have to move to Cape Town. Thats quite honestly the best I could get.

The only option I think that would be worth looking at is UNISA. Have a look at this link: http://www.unisa.ac.za/default.asp?Cmd=ViewContent&ContentID=19755

Right at the bottom of the page is their third stream, "Computer Generated Multimedia"

Only thing is it is correspondence, and if you want to be at the workshops you need to be in Pretoria.

Thx 4 the info :)
I was thinking of finding someone that gives extra art classes here in Centurian, to help me out with my portfolio, ect. :)

If anybody else got any other suggestions, let me know plz? :)

Try talking to Thomasin (randolf (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=124297)on the forums) http://www.thomasindewhurst.com/

He's from South Africa and he's a really good painter, ask him where he got his training, etc. Even though he's not a concept artist, he still has very strong skills that would be helpful in the field, so ask him about it. From my experience in the forums, he's a really cool, really friendly guy too.

Hope this helps
