OLSEN, you had better get your ass back into gear to finish that Thunderdome entry... it was looking badass my friend. Suck it up and finish! :chug:

OLSEN

Strych9ine-> Thanks mate, its good to hear that from you.

But the main reason i dumped Moses was that the teqnique (spelling??) i used was really timeconsuming, the last version of the WIP of the character was something like 70% done, and then i had to add the background aswell and that would take another 10 hours.. It was a kind of experiment for me to see how detailed i could go without going crazy, and well, i went to far with it.

In other words, Moses as you have seen him wont make it to thunderdome.. Hopefully i will get back on the train when the final images start to drop in and the muse speaks to me again.

Cheers! :chug:

I finally have a scanner, so this thread will be updated a bit more often from now on, but not too often, i dont want to spend all my time scanning and not drawing. :)

Markers and ballpoint. One of my "best" sketches in a while, i like the feel.
http://medlem.spray.se/ksmolsen/image/Marker7.jpg

A sketch i tried to save, you can still see the original linework under the black, i think it turned out ok though. Markers, ballpoint and white pencil.

Drop comments if you have them.

Good to see your pen and inks :). cool style

are u in school ?

OLSEN
November 18th, 2003, 08:33 PM
Thanks, glad you like my style. :)

And, no, im not in school. I work from home doing rpg illustrations and 28mm figure sculpting. Itīs very bad pay but atleast i get to draw and sculpt all day long without feeling bad about it.

The DSG topic was "Dragonslayer Sword" so i made this broken blade with ballpoints and markers. I usually stay away from drawing weapons unless itīs part of a character or a scene, but if itīs a DSG itīs a DSG... I think it turned out ok so here it is:

http://medlem.spray.se/ksmolsen/image/Broken%20Blade.jpg

And a failed marker sketch i did my best to save in photoshop:

really cool stuff, i dig the black and whites a lot the color piece gets muddy with all the use of brown in your colors. but it has a good sense of light overall, good stuff

OLSEN
November 19th, 2003, 11:56 PM
thanks for commenting siskol p. :)

Cool you like my black and whites, thats my main focus at the moment, well, actually it has always been my main focus, but i wish i had more time to practise my colors, i see your point about the muddy colors, oh well..

dude....

VAST improvement on the colors that red one with the army is HOT!!! definatly the winner of the color pieces you've done so far. i'd keep to what you're doing (basically 2 colors split compliments...) its working well for you, and the detail is there as well.. like i said, MUCH improved...

OLSEN
November 22nd, 2003, 04:45 PM
Thanks man!

Iīve been working my ass off lately searching for a quick and good looking style for my colors, so it really makes my day that somebody noticed improvement. Iīll keep them coming. :)

Hi Olsen,

I especially like your latest orc-pieces. One can see the improvement and fun you had with this topic. The style of the orcs reminds me a bit of Ian Miller, a british illustrator I really loke. If you donīt know his works, yet, have a look at them. Very dark and gothic!

Fipse

OLSEN
November 22nd, 2003, 06:18 PM
Thanks for the reply Fipse. :)

I made a search for Ian Miller on Google but all i got was some minimal thumbnails and a babyblue dragon that wasnt gothic at all. If you have a good link to his work it would be great if you posted it. I think i recognice his name from Games Workshop, am i wrong about that?

Fipse
November 22nd, 2003, 06:29 PM
Yeah, he did some work for Games Workshop in the late 80īs/early nineties (e.g. 3rd edtition Warhammer Fantasy Battle/Realm of Chaos) when their stuff wasnīt so heavily pre-visualized.

But heīs done more stuff. Heīs done great illustrations for the "lord of the rings" and an attended bestiary, moviework, coverart etc. Hereīs a bit about him: http://www.deliriummag.com/ianmiller.html

Most work I connect with him is black and white pendrawing with masses of details.

Is "loke" sort of like the median of like and love... if it's a typo it was a beneficial mistake. At least for me... I'm gonna start using that word.;)

I really like all these sketches... especially the hanging one and the sword. You're color work looks great as well.

awesome studio...great lights!! look expensive :P.

pretty good setup. not much space between the other table and your computer though? maybe its just decieving depth :)

i see you cleaned up for the picture. no real artist is that clean! ;) jk, we all have our habits.

coke will kill ya btw!

keep up the awesome work!

OLSEN
November 27th, 2003, 09:54 PM
Its exactly that cramped between the computer table and the other one, itīs a small room but good enough for my needs, although i would like to replace one of the tables with a good drawingtable, you know the kind that rotates and all that shit.

Coke is fuel to me.

And thanks, iīll keep it up. :)

Aidan
November 28th, 2003, 09:09 AM
Hehe, we got the same chair, but mine doesn't have those porno zebra stripes. ;)

OLSEN
November 28th, 2003, 09:35 AM
I suppose you have the cool black chair then? They only had zebra and yellow when i was shopping, so i didnt have much of a choise. Its really comfy though, and it has a fluffy texture you dont often get on office chairs.

talmir
November 28th, 2003, 11:34 AM
Thereīs so much atmosphere in all your pictures.. I envy you :) Great stuff..

btw, your room is so... erm... normal... :P

Coka cola is life... erm.. or harboe cola, depends on country...

OLSEN
November 28th, 2003, 12:34 PM
Thanks Talmir, i do a lot of black and white sketches like the ones you see here, but i only post the ones i feel has some value to me. If you knew the amount of crappy sketches i produce every day you wouldnt envy me. Do enough and youre bound to get lucky with one or two of them, thats how i work.. :)

I think the swedish national coke is "Apotekarens Cola" or something, Harboe sounds danish.. doesnt matter, i support all of the free west by drinking Coca Cola. ;)

talmir
November 28th, 2003, 01:08 PM
yup, Itīs danish.. I post everything (well, almost everything) I do in my sketchbook, not very productive, I know. but Iīm trying to get into the rut.. (programming takes most of my time). Hmm, I hope your apotekarens cola doesnt taste like apotakary licquorice :p

Yiako
November 28th, 2003, 06:22 PM
Love how you can bring so much atmosphere into your pics with so few strokes.

OLSEN
November 28th, 2003, 09:53 PM
Talmir, itīs drinkable actually, but nothing like the real deal, dont know what apotakary licquorice is though.

Yiako, thanks. :)

And a brush experiment.

And another, not pleased with it at all, but i like the brush.

yeah, I think she liked it. :)

i think my favorite things that you do/have done, are the little opaque guys, esp. the ones with multiple figures in them, its really cool how you kinda turn an army into a landscape element. you're definatly getting better with the color though, they're not all mudded out like before. i could do without the pen creatures that the guys were riding on, they just didn't seem to fit and looked too sketchy.

all in all gravey stuff

OLSEN
December 4th, 2003, 10:03 PM
Hi siskol,

thanks for the reply. The little opaque guys were great fun to do. I have a few new papers filled with them so iīll post more soon.

The creatures the sketchy guys are riding on are thumbnails i did for the more finished picture of the beastrider, the large one. I know they are no masterpieces, but they were an important part of the procedure.

Thanks again. :) I

Todays upload is actually 2 pages from my actual sketchbook. I have a strong tradition not keeping one, prefering to draw on loose paper, but a week ago i bought one and now i just cant stop myself from doodling in it.

OLSEN
December 19th, 2003, 11:31 AM
hi Swift,

it took me about a week to adapt to the tablet, and then a couple of months before i felt really comfortable with it.

I use the smallest cheapest kind at the moment, the Volito, it works perfectly fine, and i can really recomend it, but the more expensive ones are equally worth their price and obviously a lot better with more functions and such.

The one i have ordered is a graphire3 and i plan to kick ass with it. :D

Cheers.
