thats pretty amazing. I wonder how it will turn out. It might make people nauseous and dizzy if it moves to fast lol.

It seems like no matter how crazy your idea for a building, you can find somebody to give you billions of dollars to build it in Dubai.

Even though it's a little bit superfluous, I would really like to see it built.

Undulating is one of my favourite words, any building that undulates is ok by me!

I was really stopped short there for a moment... undulat in Norwegian is a bird, I think you know it as budgerigar? "Melopsittacus undulatus" is the latin name.
I was so thinking about a birdshaped house flapping in the wind there for a moment... That was a classic WTF?? moment.... *rofl*
Nice though! I think I read about it earlier, and yes, if you have any cool ideas that someone with money bites on in Dubai, they'll build everything. ;)

Hahaha, wow, those crazy dudes down in Dubai! Gotta love them :D
I got an email about this at work (architecture studio), everyone felt this was beyond pushing the limits, hehe. I really want to visit Dubai!

read the info that you posted
Taller than the Empire State Building, the so-called Dynamic Tower will be built in Dubai, with a second version featuring a retractable helicopter pad, later planned for Moscow.

That actually looks incredibly cool, I dunno about the whole powering itself by the wind part, but talk about visually impressive!

Meh. I guess that's okay. I really had my hopes that I'd see the Tyrell Corp. pyramid from Bladerunner in my lifetime.

Dudes, the Space Needle made me nauseous at Revelations and you're not supposed to be able to feel that. Half an hour in that new building and my bile will redecorate your sports car (wtf?) room's walls.

I don't know about living up there myself, either, but it would be interesting to see it built. Check this one out...I don't think it moves in the wind but it is very interesting structure.

If in between the floors they had areas that could rotate faster, taking out some of the guess work of speed in the habitable areas, they could generate enough power to run the thing. The one thing I’m unsure about is cabling, how do you untwist it?

I'm wondering if the floors are going to be linked in some way to keep the whole thing from looking like some giant screwed-up Rubik's Cube.

How the hell do you get in it? It looks like even the bottom floor revolves.
I really hope it all goes through though.

apparently the floor rotation will be voice controlled, and take 3 hours to rotate. So in Steph's case it'll most likely be slow enough to not merit the vomiting.
ALSO the central elevator (which is also the main support column) will function as a transport system to each floor for PEOPLE and their CARS.
Oh yeah, and if you're made of money you can start booking floors now for $3,000/sq' ... yep

Wow, I can see it now, the headlines.
Moron drives Ferrari off 15th floor.

12th floor swoops arround and catches it.

My thoughts exactly, once you manage to get in without falling, where will the elevator take you? it would seem as tho the elevator can only work at a stationary position, so if you want to go to a certain area or department on the building...there is no guarantee that you will arrive there...just on the same revolving floor.
and if you happen to be headed towards the opposite side of the wind direction, would that be the same as walking upwards on a downward escalator??
interesting none the less

Half the world's people live in substandard or dangerous housing, or are homeless, and these idiots are spending the equivalent of many nation's GNP building this piece of flashy shit so somebody can keep the local homies from stealing his Porsche hubcaps?
PUH-leeeeeeze...
This world needs a good clean fuckin' nuke strike to get things back to reality...

Aww, c'mon fuzzbutt. The obscenely rich guys in Dubai earned their money (mostly banking, they're like the Switzerland of the mideast) or else inherrited it. In either case its their cash; who is anyone else to tell them how to spend it? At least they are spending it on something rather than hoarding it up. A building like that is going to take lots of skilled workers and they all are going to get paid. In an economy as bullish as theirs trickle down economics ensues.
I'm not a huge fan of starving people either, but I don't feel like making a fuss about it. Starving people in one country is no reason to show any less awe or at least interest in an architectural marvel in another.

You're right, Peter. And I mean that seriously. I sometimes forget that to fit into the modern world, I have to be an inhumane self-centered prick, but my faulty upbringing keeps interfering and messing up my efforts.

Pff, I never said that either. Allowing someone else to spend their money how they choose to is neither inhumane nor self centered nor does it make you a prick. Perhapse they are a prick for not being more compassionate with their own spending, but that is their business. However, the only resources that you yourself have control over are your own, and therefore if you want time, money, or effort going to one cause or another then that is the money that you have to work with. Working towards what you think is just will in no way keep you from fitting in with the modern world so long as you use methods that are just.
And its not just a matter of the "modern world." Look at any culture in history who we marvel at. Do we care if they had thousands upon thousands of poor working so that the rich could live a lavish lifestyle? No, instead we go "Wow, look and those Pyramids!" or "Oh my gosh, the Parthenon is breathtaking." The majority of what we look at to identify a culture is whats left of their buildings and architecture: Machu Pichu, the Colloseum, China's Great Wall, Stone Henge, The Vatican, The castles dotting the Rhein, Versailles, The Ziggurat at Ur. Looking back, we don't care if the rich who could afford those projects went to heaven or to hell. The poor didn't last, neither did the rich, all that was left behind was some slowly crumbling lump of stone, wood, and/or metal.

Peter, don't put words in my mouth. I stated up front that I agreed with you.
"Pff, I never said that either."
No shit. So don't claim that I said you did, or are you just intent on calling me a fucking liar for the hell of it. I was stating my own personal take on the matter. If that's forbidden here, then ask the forum elders to make it clear up front that only certain opinions/statements may be posted here.
I'm through here. I will not argue with you, which you seem intent on doing.

I'm not trying to put words in your mouth, I figured though that you had misunderstood my intentions and were referring to someone who holds my views as a inhumane self-centered prick.
I'm also not here to argue, but if someone critisizes something that I myself see no fault in then I will point out where I disagree. Theres no need to take it personally nor to feel that I am in some way personally attacking you.
