Just bought today the kill bill soundtrak, if the movie is going to be half as good as the CD it's going to be amazing.

Very curious about this one. I read that the dialouge in it isn't as sharp as in the other Tarantinos, but I'll know at the friday premier, won't I?

i was actually unpleased with the soundtrack

many songs were only 20 seconds long or less and there was a track that was only a dialogue sample, which to me is just like false advertising.

the film is actually better than the soundtrack. given the high quality of the music, this is a pretty hard achievement.

i saw it last night and im still blown away.

be prepared, though, that the music in most places is like a huge style sin (measured by the obvious references of 70s samurai flicks) but it wont matter because it fuckin rocks and its all so freakin tarantino in this movie :)

im absolutely in lobve with that flamenco track. that bit of handclapping blows the rhythm faction of techno and trance completely our of the water.

i must be the only person who wasnt blown away by this film, and im not even that hard to please

the soundtrack did rock

the problem i had with the film was it was almost all style, and little substance. whereas his earlier films were the perfect balance. the characters in BILL were very 1 dimensional. lucy lui's character gets quite a bit of screen time (animated version included) and all we ever learn about her is that shes good at killing people.

i dont know. i really wanted to love the film. there were alot of cool things going on .....but i just left the theatre feeling sort of empty...maybe i need to see it again....

I left the theater a little dizzy due to the mix of styles. As it was mentionned before, the music vs the visual was rather suprising in some places. Overall it was a good movie but compared to what he did before I have to agree with tyboogie there ; it seems to have less substance. Maybe I just need to watch it again like Pulp Fiction or Reservoir Dogs, etc. And will there really be a second part ?..

P.S. (edit): I never dissed the movie. Just gave my first impressions. mkaaaay ? :) touchy touchy !

the movie is called kill bill and she hasn't even seen bill yet, of course a second movie.

it's not a sequel, just the continued film

EG, and Ty,

i think you guys went into this movie with the wrong attitude. if you really think about it, you really DO learn a lot about O-Ren, you learn her heritage, where she grew up, what made her the way she is, how she got back at the men who killed her parents... jesus, there's a whole "chapter" of the movie called the origin of O-Ren... i don't understand how you can think its so one dimentional, but getting back to my first sentence, this is a revenge story plain and simple, she's simply going after the people who tried to kill her. there i just summed up the whole plot in one sentence. if you're looking for some deep story with plot twists an all that, then you cant appreciate this movie. i duno how many sonny chiba movies you guys have seen, but ive seen a couple, and lemme tell ya, they weren't oscar nominees, but thats not why i watched 'em. i watched em for the same reasons i watched this film, because of AWESOME SWORD AND HAND TO HAND FIGHTS, and a HOT ASS LEAD ROLE. i wasn't going for the plot, or hell, even the acting, and i think thats what you guys were looking for, and for this kinda movie, you can't have that kinda attitude...

siskol theres a difference between character and characterization

characterization is all teh traits of a person, IE-where she grew up, hair color, eating habits, walking style, etcetc

true character is revealed when a character is put into a sitution and must make a CHOICE..IE= save a kitten from a burning church....is this character courageous or a coward...thats goes to teh very heart of the character

there really werent many choices these characters had to make other than how to pose after they chop someone apart. im sorry but the film was all style (albeit great style) and very little substance...but thats just my opinion....i could be wrong

and as afar as the "thats not why i went to see it, i went to see it for teh samurai fights and hott ass uma" im sorry but quinton has proved he can make a film with really well rounded and engageing characters, and lots of cool action. so he spoiled us already with his potential and now maybe he got a little lazy and relied to mutch on his style

i should wait till teh second film for a final opinion tho--

<OPINION>probably as boring as the other tarantino trash.</OPINION>

yeah i hear what you're sayin ty,

and it was very stylistic. i read an article in "american cinematographer" and his cinematographer said that this movie was one of the most laborious projects he ever worked on. he watched, i think it was over 2-400+ movies in the styles of: samurai action, western, horror, and drama. all to be able to shoot the scenes like tarentino wanted them. he (tarentino) would be like "i want this scene done like director " " and the cinematographer would be like ok.. and they'd set up the shots in that style. so its a real mish-mash of cinematography styles, and i do agree that he kinda seems like a one trick pony with the way he always sets up his films out of chronological order. but as for the choices part of your blurb

the bride: do i kill everyone who tried to kill me and killed my baby and my husband etc?? or do i leave them alone and get on with my life ( its a really one sided choice but its still a choice)

o-ren: pretty much the same choice as the bride only parents

Bill: to i let the bride leave the DiVAS and settle down, or do i find her and silence her for good...

now i'll admit, these are all pretty one sided choices, but they're also choices that as you put it, go to the very heart of the character. from the choices they make and the actions they take. you see that these are some serious folks who don't fuck around and if you mess with them chances are, that you're dead.

but i think now I'M getting to wrapped up in the movie. i mean tarentino said it himself, this is a grind house movie. its not academy award or even sundance material, this is just my lil' homage to all the movies that i watched growing up.
its not that he's "lazy" its that, That's what the movies about.

i saw the movie while staying in montreal last saturday.
i was quite impressed by this damn thing, same for the score.
usually, i'm always more interested by movies featuring symphonic tracks. tarantino did manage to wake me up on the score too, as it is perfectly chosen for the combat scenes and atmosphere. i managed to grab the score pretty fast, i love it.

as for the movie? a punch in the nose, though i might understand why some may find it "messy".
