Hey,
I've been thinking about doing a series of images around a epic war like scene. I've been trawling around google and alls i can find are either civil war images, or 'warhammer 40k' (whatever that is?). The warhammer images are stunning, but im just wondering if any of you guys have any sugestions?
Very busy images with alot going on, hundreds of people, can be futuristic or not. Its just to do a bit of background into the style and get my head around what im thinking about doing haha.
Would appriciate any ideas :D
Cheers,
Oh an by the way, im new here. so ... "hi"

Just type into google reniesance(<-not completly sure on that) art and WAIT, you dont know what warhammer is, ...
(the ultimate warfighter game of it kind ever made back then, youve missed out on a lot)
Anyway revolotionary art(art made in revoloutions) would have been greatly influenced by war. And I have to say to make a good epic war scene you should go along this checklist.
0.(cuz you need it so bad) COMPOSITION
1.Lots of people in uniform
2.guns, lots of guns
3.bloodshed
4.chaos
5.explosions
6.swords and pointy shit
7.gesturetive faces-in fear ofcourse
+welcome to ca, im inda new to.

Your problem is, that by the time photography was developed enough to get a real action shot of an epic battle scene, weaponry was developed enough to make it insane to stand up and try to take a photo. Google image search Tarawa or Omaha beach for example and you see pictures of a few guys hiding behind the same cover the photographer was using, or running toward cover. Hundreds or even thousands of guys were around there, but you can't see them. If the photographer stood up to try and use an 8x10 view camera or something he would have been machine gunned within a second or two.
An artist landed with the marines at Peleliu and didn't make so much as a sketch. He scrambled to stay alive for about two and a half days and then made his sketches from memory on the ship he was eventually evacuated to. He subsequently made some interesting oils based on those sketches, but he could not do anything besides staying alive while he was actually in combat. http://www.peleliu1944.com/PeleliuArt.html

I don't know if Afghanistan qualifies as an "epic war", but here is one artist's take on it.

search -Don Troiani- he has done some great battle scenes. I know they are mostly civil war based but the idea still translates and I think he does a great job in his compositions.

'warhammer 40k' (whatever that is?).
Basically a miniatures based futuristic Wargame run amok and there are now comics, art books, computer games ("Dawn of War" is a really good game btw) etc.
