Give God hell Carlin!
What with Carlin, Bill Hicks and Lenny Bruce you kind of wonder if God stands a chance!
Very sad news...

there was the best portrayal of God on JTHM, I think Carlin would approve.

i never really liked listening to his comedy, but i respected the shit out of the guy. Changed a lot of things about the comedy industry that has effected all my favorite comedians.
Amazing how relevant his comedy was for over 40 years.

It's interesting to me that so many people consider him a genius and a wonderful social commentator (not necessarily the people in this thread, I'm talking in general) and they go right on believing in their little ideas anyway instead of listening to the truth of what he's saying. I don't think one bit of it was ever done for comic relief, he had a message, and he used his comedy to wrap it up in a present people will actually open.
Anyway, my favorite line of his will always be:
"We all get a free ticket to the carnival when we're born here on this planet, so we might as well enjoy the show."
And by the way, I think we should implement the four-corner states-as-prison idea... including the Pay Per View :D

One of the only celebrity deaths that has ever actually made me sad. A brilliant comic with an unforgettable live show.

It's truly a shame to hear about his death. His influences will definately spread wide and far. Too bad I didn't see any of his shows(other than online).

It's almost as bad as when Bill Hicks died prematurely back in 1994. Though on the bright side for George his work is well known in America (unlike Bill, whose material was nicked by Dennis Leary), and will continue to resonate for years to come. Still 71 is young this day and age.

I was a fan of him from a young age and he never dumbed down his humor. He frequently did shows at the theater I work at in Jersey and he was such a warm outgoing guy. I'll never forget some a group of us who worked backstage just sitting in between shows and telling stories with him.

in a few months he was due to receive the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.. sadly, making him the first comedian so honored posthumously.
certainly the first media figure ive shed a tear for, im not sure why the news has hit me so hard, clearly he represented more to me than i realized.i was fine until i started looking at old clips on youtube....and the waterworks started flowing. (totally out of character for me..especially for a man i never met )

Ironically, in some ways this

is a more fitting tribute than these (http://cagle.msnbc.com/news/BLOG/main.asp).
George would probably appreciate some genuine, sincere nutjob vitriol to by-the-book hackyness.

elwell; just gotta love them hellfire preachers... always makes for lovely conversation.
Honestly if he pickets Carlin's funeral, I hope 'god' will come down from heaven and blow his fucking face clean off with a sawed off shotty filled with rock salt. That or someone takes a aluminum baseball bat and pulls a Joe Peshe(Sorry if I can't spell...) on his sorry ass for being such a prick.

I have an idea for one too Ilaekae, but it's just sad listening to so much hate coming out of someone. If there is a hell, I'm pretty sure Phelps is headed there too! But there ain't, so he isn't! Instead this life will just be his own hate filled version of one, because he sure isn't happy...
