hey,

im a FF virgin so this be my first post.

Im a graphic design student and its finally the end of my Final Major Project.
i chose to do concept design for a fictional game i created titled "Magpie".
i was to design the characters, weapons, enemies, and environments.
Some may recognise them from the Critique Centre, but now they are finally finished
(or atleast for now, never know i may come back to them...)

so I thought i would post them up for you.

i'd never done anything to do with character design before,
an it was a great load of fun. I'd love to meddle in it as a profession,
as it's something i've always wanted to do.
i spent about 3-4 weeks working from initial ideas to the ones you see here.
thanks to those who gave us pointers in the CC!

I've included a photo of how my exhibit looks, as i had the
two characters printed out as 7x4ft characters
(sorry about the light glare on the characters)
The pictures i put in the thread were printed at A1 -
along with the environments an alien silhouettes, which i could post up if anyones curious on how they looked.

i decided to take this further as a personal project an to
design more bits and do "scenes" from the game to show how it could play/look

anywhooo - yeahhh i hope you likes.

wow, they look great on those prop ups! I really like the helmet and covering over the characters face! My favorite part! I also really like the design of the first character and how he has those lights coming up from his back!

Looks cool. But i think you should work more on the lighting. Don't forget that self shadowing is a good step to adding depth. On the front view of the second dood for example, the light hitting the gun and the arm holding it doesn't really follows the light source. Something else is that the chest and arm are too dark compared to the part around it (legs, shoulder, etc) As for the highlights themselves, i think you should make them sharper. For example the spine looking part on the abdominal is too confused. Yes, with a direct reflection it would appear glaring (?), but here the white is wayy to much. I think some saturation before getting to the white would help getting the whole better. Did you do a greyscale before ?
Hummm argh i think i should stop there and let you enjoy your rest hehe. the idea is cool, but i'd keep an eye on lighting and functionality ! Those are crucial (with other aspects) in order to create a good concept.
My two cents !
