Thanks for all your comments! They actually made me go back and tighten it up a bit, largely based on some suggestions made so I really appreciate it!!!
I love CA!
Sooooo, here's the new version...I hope it's for the better! :)
Below is the old version....
So, this is my first Cintiq painting!
Took a day or two to get used to it but now it feels so natural....
Hope you like it...thanks for looking!!!

I love it, it has a great sense of design and I can see that you know how to draw underneath the painting.
Nice!

I love this man...man.
Would love to know how to get a paintery feel like that, it really tells so much more then cleaned tight pictures, like I always get...grrrr.
Keep it up, Cya...

Very cool, I like the detail on the axe, nice and red. I also think the background does a good job in setting the mood. Good job.

EXCELLENT WORK CB!! Really cool. Good form, good lighting, the right touch of detail. I really like this! It’s a real powerful piece. I’d hate to meet up with this guy on a dark pathway :teeth:
Enjoy seeing this, Bruce

this is an awesome image. the pose i think is just right, defiant, stoic. good work.
p.s. i want a cintiq really bad, but it turns out i've got no money.

Goran, you are going to tear shit up now that you have that Cintiq...how do you like it?
The touching horns feel a little strange to me, and I agree with the fleshtone comment by Rich. Other than that I can't find much to crit. I like the lively colors you used in the background, and nice attention to detail.
Keep posting man!

The helmet catches my eye, good work there. The lighting's a little funky on his right side, as there’re no highlights and I don't see how they're inhibited. It takes from the realism, in my opinion.
Mandryk echo.

This looks great; The lightning effects in particular are very well done; It helps give the image a very rich, dynamic look. Your portfolio is incredible btw, hope to see more works from you soon. Keep it up!

Great, perfect work, what is your opinion about Cintiq, which is software used?.
Thanks taeeb, I love Cintiq and I only use Photoshop to paint
damn, nice. I love epic paintings :D
Thanks Kvick!
Do you notice any difference over the Intuos 3 in control?
I haven't noticed any difference yet, it could be that Intuous is more sensitive but if there is a difference in control, it doesn't bother me at all :)
I love this man...man.

Thanks ghoulio, I guess I just try to stay loose throughout the whole process.

Thanks Lotet! Perhaps you're right...I guess subconsciously I wanted him to look more intimidating :)
nice warrior, cintiq is working natural, sounds sexy.........

Hey Kay, thanks! Always nice to hear your praise :)
nice painting! i'm thinking some warmth and color variation in the flesh will really make this sing.
Thanks Rich! I might go back and beef up the flesh tones althought I like the subtle, dirty skin he has now. I went a long way in BW for this painting and thought I'd leave some dirt :)
LOVE your work, by the way!
Goran, you are going to tear shit up now that you have that Cintiq...how do you like it?

Thanks Daryl! I have a big project starting in a week so I guess that will be the real test for Cintiq---working long hours on it :) I wish I could put it in my lap so that I don't work hunched over but it's so frikin' big & heavy. So far I love it! Have you used it?
Yeah, the horns do look strange :) I was looking to do something different with them. Ditto on the flesh tones...
The helmet catches my eye, good work there. The lighting's a little funky on his right side, as there’re no highlights and I don't see how they're inhibited. It takes from the realism, in my opinion.

Thanks man! The lighting is, of course, made up so I lit up parts that I thought would sell the overall mood and left the others vague. I wasn't too technical about it but you're probably right, I could punch up the right side a bit :)
This looks great; The lightning effects in particular are very well done; It helps give the image a very rich, dynamic look. Your portfolio is incredible btw, hope to see more works from you soon. Keep it up!
Thanks man....and thanks for checking out the rest of my stuff, much appreciated!

Beautiful painting. I'm having trouble coming up with any praise that hasn't already been said, so I'll just leave it at that. :)
So I'm guessing he's a left handed warrior? Seeing as his right shoulder is heavily guarded and looks as if its range of movement is hindered. :P
And I'll have to agree with Mandryk about the touching horns. They do look kinda silly. I have a suggestion on that: Perhaps the horns of his helmet could mirror the the horns of his belt buckle? It might make for a more consistent design.

Great work!
However, I have the feeling his one pectoral is a bit spherical and needs to be flattened a little, and I believe the shape of his bicep could use some more definition...
Otherwise, he looks just fine to me! Mood is great and roughness-detail are in balance just the way I like my eyefood.
Thanks for sharing, I hope you'll be making other ones in this style.

I can really apreciate that you made the helmet large enough so that his head could actually fit inside it.
Allot of people draw helmets on thre characters either way to tight to the head, or damn near make it part of there body.
Nice use of angles in the armors design.

Yes it is quite beautifully done...Especially the metal. But to critique this piece, the skin looks more like the metal than it does actual fleshy substance. This would be because of the hues and the shiney hammered metal like approach to the rendering of the flesh. Would be great to really send the difference between the flesh and metal than have the difference between the two obscured..

As for him being left handed...sure :)
Originally I wanted to do the helmet horns like the belt buckle but he'd look much like Frazetta's "death dealer"...but yeah, nice call!

Yeah man it looks great now. It went from a standard soldier to an epic character with way more personality.
I am pleased to have helped!
