would an itoya 9x12 portfolio be suitable to hold work and send to potential employers? an itoya portfolio is just a semi-hard plastic cover with 24 pages with sleeves.

You betcha'. I love these things; slick looking, customisable spines, the perfect size to fit in a small fedex box, and cheap enough have several in circulation and replace them when they get worn. Go for it.
