Love the work on this forum, glad I can contribute to it finally. Lots of talented people here I truly respect.

Been pushing to get these done for the last 8 months. Might self publish a 9"x12" book, with a hand drawn cover, all that.

These are DONE, however I will listen to everyones criticisms, as Im sure I need them.

Sketches can be found here:

This isn't the most inciteful feedback, but man, I really dig your style. In a big way. I went and checked out your site, as well. Some pretty wild stuff going on, all round. It's just nice to see some balls out inking every now and then. Your work actually reminds me of Andy Brase's stuff. Which I think is a good thing :)

Can you go into what your concept is with these chess piece works?

A beautiful, crazy mix of images that seem to work as a whole picture. It also has a fantastic low brow / tattoo art feel to it.

The only crit that I have is that the 2nd image and the last don't have a main area of focus like the others. The other images have a skull or face etc as a main focus point. This slightly human focus makes those images alot stronger IMO.

This is wonderful stuff...such awe inspiring compositions, I could stare at each piece, and be mezmerized indefinitely. Have you thought about dropping the thick midtone outlines in your pieces and try to convey volume limits by other means or not convey them at all?

Thanks all! I appreciate the feedback.

Sevans I agree, it was the second one I did and does lack a "human" element.

Basically, I was going for a series that was unified in a few ways but all over the map in terms of content.

I am considering doing a white series, but have to take a month break at least before considering it, as these were done inbetween other projects, and took a long time. Also, without the black voids, they were a little less "moody". The white peices will be more heavily saturated to reverse the effect.

btw, this one i love:

but i dont like the tree thats behind everything. i would pull that element out. i did it in PS real fast just to see what it would look like and i think it looks cleaner.

I personally like the tree there, it adds to the flowing organic scheme he has for that particular piece.

But then again the one who will ultimately decide is Anville, so whatever, that was my 2 cents.

Dude, I only just now found this thread with a search. I checked out the website before and loved it, but this link (http://4nville.blogspot.com/) to the pencil sketches is the ticket. Didn't catch that the first time around.

Totally blown back by the pencil work for the chess series. Can't wait to see the new stuff.
Thanks again for rocking it so hard. :ninja++:

This is excellent work! Gorgeous designs and wonderful technique. From a chess player's perspective, it was difficult to tell which image represented which piece. Still, I applaud your skill and determination. Congrats.

WOW, those are KILLER! Excellent composition/design and the values are poppin'! Id buy this book fosho! :) did you put down the values in PS or is it pen and ink? combo? and if you could I can see a bit of "chess" set, but would you mind putting the inspiration in your own words behind theses illos? ssssssaaaaweet.

Hey beatifull pieces my man!!
Lovely work!!
I was wondering how you do those pieces seems like there a bunch of mix techniques in there. Do you use photshop? It seems there some vectors in some pieces, or is just hard piencel paiting?
Awesome works!
Keep it up!
