Hey guys itīs been way too long since I last was able to post anything.
I want to start to do more full body pictures but there wasnt enough time to finish one of those yet.

Here are two portrait shots that I would love to get your thoughts on.

Thanks for taking a look

I think you should challenge yourself and draw something else than portraits of badass guys in semiprofile. Both of em are very same/same, and looking at your deviantart gallery, thatīs what you seem to be drawing most of the time.

I think the rimlight in the first one makes the form look 2 dimensional, looks better in the second one where you havenīt used a rimlight. You might want to consider using the rimlight to describe more form, or remove it altogether.

The textures looks very "texture" as if they donīt belong IMO. YOu might want to warp and distort them in their overlay layer to better follow the form. As they look now, itīs a texture straight up and down on a new overlay layer. The texture looks flat.

The colours are pretty juicy. I like the fleshtones in the first one. I think the sahpes in the second one are more interesting.

Great expression on the first one. Overall it's really good, however the side-lighting seems very basic and has the effect of "pulling" the far side of the face towards the viewer and flattening the whole image. The ear needs some work!

Nice job!

DeathAndDisinfectant: Thanks man and I have to admit he was in the back of my head when I painted it =)

csteingart: Thanks man

spookybabydoll: Thanks =)

kaktuzlime: Thanks for the input its much appreciated and as I said I ll get my lazy ass to do some more full body pictures and less portraits

I didnt see the problem the rimlight caused so thanks for pointing that out I might get rid of it

and if you have any pointers about textures I d be more than happy to hear about them cus I have been concernd about that aswell but I dont know how to get them to follow the form better maybe you can help me with that

Baron Impossible: Thanks man and yeah I need to work on my ears a little more even though I have been using refference on this one =)

Thanks again guys

here is a little something I just finished for fun

No problemo mate! Glad to be of some assistance ;). I think you ought to look for the answers to your texture problem on you own, in my experience, thatīs how you learn the most. Anyway, I thought I could muster a hint at least ^^ Check out this awesome tutorial (answer to question 3) by Patri Balanovsky aka. "Chuck, Mate" (hope you donīt mind Patri). You can find it in his old sketchbook, along with many other gems.
