I've recently been finishing off sketches and digital works in an attempt to get together some resemblance of a portfolio and website...I've always had a dream to do comic book covers, especially Wolverine. You might have seen some part of each of these final images, however they've changed quite a bit along the way and i wanted to post the final versions.
NONE of these are ACTUAL COMIC BOOK COVERS, they are not published, i added the titles and other "badging" to show what it would look like as an actual cover. I do not intend to trick or fool anyone into thinking these are actual commissions by the respective comic book publishers or published works in general.
Thanks for lookin!

Hey, very nice. But the tiger is kinda pulling down the level of the Wolvie cover.

Chupacabra, thanks for your input...by "pulling down" do you mean, the quality of rendering, the contrast, or what specifically so i can understand and address this issue.
My intention was to have the viewer initially thinking Wolverine is surrounded by fierce wild animals, in this case tigers(ooh aaah scary). However upon further inspection i wanted the viewer to feel that perhaps the tigers are on Wolvie's side and all three are confronting the viewer. I tried to fake some depth of field in making the foreground and background more out of focus, leaving wolvie crisp. Originally I had the foreground tiger much blurrier but then it made the tiger appear far closer to the viewer and perspectively it ended up looking very small in comparison to wolverine. :S Not quite sure how to address this issue. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!

As a hardcore Batman fan, I have to say that the Harley Quinn cover is my favorite.
As an unbaised person, I'd still say it's my favorite, I like the interesting angle, as well as that look on her face....its crazy...and pissed.....and crazy. Very nice.

I, on the other hand, would strongly recommend against showing the Harley piece, at least in it's current form, in a professional portfolio. The anatomical and foreshortening problems are just too numerous. In general, your ideas are strong, and your painting and rendering skills are good, but all the pieces have drawing and compositional issues. It looks like you've got the beginning and the end of the process down, but there's a chunk in the middle you're glossing over. I think you need to slow down and not be in such a rush to get to the fun part.

Pirate Lord 78: Thanks for the kind words
Elwell: Thanks for your critique, i appreciate it. The Harley Quinn piece was one of the first "full paintings" i've "completed", i originally posted it quite some time ago just as a WIP and i suppose upon revisiting it and making it into a cover i overlooked some basic areas. I do tend to jump right into things from a very loose initial sketch phase, for the Harley Quinn i did a small sketch(without any ref whatsoever) during a meeting and then just jumped into painting it once i got back to my desk, attempting to fix proportion and foreshortening problems i saw along the way. You are correct though, i should take my time and get down a tight sketch with reference before jumping into the "fun bits"! Especially with something consisting of such a dramatic angle with foreshortening etc... Hopefully, if i can stay conscious of it, it will come with time. For now i just can't help myself, very impatient! HAHA
