It's kindof small, but the red X is a nice touch on the white rectangle background...2 thumbs up!

The red X was nice, but the piece at the other end of the link you posted - "Remote Access to this object forbidden" strikes a cord in my psyche. Black and white work is always appreciated. Good typography, if not a little sparse.

I think you need a different web host. :D

hm,the first piece should be showing up now, and if it doesn't,it's a bandwidth problem.other than that,is there no one to comment on the piece?
even in the small version, the most important things should be visible.nothing to crit?i worked really hard on the colouring and the background was also a big debate.

I think you would have been better off with a different hue on that background. You've got red on red at similar values. The alien sort of gets lost in the mix.

ah,yes...is it fast?

Killer Napkins
October 25th, 2003, 04:00 PM
eh its somewhat slow for my liking.. its like deviantart in speed.. dont go to my gallery.. go to my homepage and then go to manage articles..

Carnifex
October 25th, 2003, 04:03 PM
hmm...i don't find that option
i have
"manage homepage"
"manage page title/body"
"manage featured gallery images"

Killer Napkins
October 25th, 2003, 04:04 PM
hmm it should be right under manage page title/body thing...

Carnifex
October 25th, 2003, 04:06 PM

Killer Napkins
October 25th, 2003, 05:02 PM

Carnifex
October 25th, 2003, 05:05 PM
well, the only thing i can find there is the "manage featured gallery images" thingy.when i click there,i can upload some image, give it a title and add some comment to it.other users might comment later on.is that the right one?

just like what someone else said, that red background is pretty much the same value as the character in the foreground. If you make that background a more muted red it would let our eyes be able to rest on the alien as the focal point. Also don't forget about primitive shapes and how that alien would fit those shapes. Right now the alien looks flat, I think if you make stand as to what shapes he is consisted of... (cylinder, cube, pyramid, cone, sphere, and combinations of those) your alien will start to look more believable. Also watch that line quality on the rock it is standing on. The shading lines you used are a little too scratchy. Those scratchy lines have their place but i don't think it is working too well in this piece.

hope that helps, i think if someone else posted with a good knowledge base they might be able to give you a better direction.

oh that's okay, thank you. i think the flat look may also come a bit from the rock shape.without it,it looked a bit more 3d,but that's maybe just me.but you have good points.maybe i'll work on them.thanx:)

yes, there is definantly a lack of value as well. if i counted them, there would prolly be about 7 base values and very little blending to acheive that 3d feel. also i'm assuming your basing it off of gigers aliens. if so, then there are some major ... anatomy issues. giger himself was a great artist who based all of his creations off of the human form and distorted them thusly. now the torso, abdomen, and also the joints in the leg ... specifically the knee ... it is missing the muscle tissue to walk, move and function. as well as just really scratch your head. i would look at some images of an alien as well as the human form for reference. i like the attempt at foreshortening though :)

Carnifex
October 26th, 2003, 02:31 PM
why, thank you.the design surely is inspired by giger's alien, but the original idea came from a weird dream of mine.(in which i strangely was that creature myself).so...how particular are the torso and the abdomen wrong?how could i change that with the knees?
btw,i did this piece shortly after starting with practicing anatomy,so that's maybe why it isn't perfectly correct.what values should be there?thanx for the input.

look at the joints, look at where the tendens are where they bend, look at the rib cage in corrolation to the hips, etc. as for the value, try blending more. and definantly change the background value.
