getting photoshop

I have been wanting photoshop for quite some time, problem is im cheep lol

does anyone know how to get it free and not putting my computer at risk with risky downloads.

also on another note how much do tablets cost in Australia? and does the higher price give better quality tablets?

Why are you prepared to spend money to get a tablet but not Photoshop? Or would you be looking for ways to get that for free if they are too expensive? The educational version of Photoshop is a fraction of the regular cost, save for that. Forget pirated downloads.

well its a lot harder to get a tablet free lol..., and thanks for the tip on the educational version.

also how is gimp compared to photoshop, keeping in mind it would only be temporary until I purchase photoshop

Wacom tablets come bundled with Photoshop Elements, a stripped-down version of the program. It's very limited compared to the full program, but enough to get you started.

I'm currently using elements, and find it's painting capabilities very, very similar to CS3. My trial of cs3 died out about a week or two ago, CS3 felt faster, but my memory is kind of sketchy :) I'm wondering if CS3 does indeed run quicker, it's discounted with a new wacom

Use the free trials of different versions intil you have no other option :) Thats what I've done and now I am pretty much forced into buying the student version which I find would be useful because it's my own and it would be there on disk and I won't have to download anything or waste any time doing it.

There always a legal version of Opencanvas you can use 1.1 I found that quite useful. Now I am in the process of learning photoshop a complete different software is only the problem. Hard to adjust to in my opinion.

Just save up and get the full program at student pricing. Pirating it is just wrong, your best bet is to get CS3 through that. Look for tablets on ebay, and try not to cheap out to much. These programs and tools cost money, don't expect a (reliable) free ride.

dude do not go with ebay. Not too long ago I purchased a BRAND NEW full version of CS2, and it turned out to be fraudulent. It was even packaged nicely in a shrink-wrapped box, came with it's own 450 page manual, registered, but turned out to be baloney. When I got my Intuos3, I got a coupon for Photoshop for $300. The whole thing ended up putting me back only $600 so its a pretty good deal.

I've got three copies of Elements and Photoshop Elements and they've yet
to be used.

it depends on what you want to do with Photoshop - If you want to make digital paintings, Gimp is a good program, which also is for free:

I have the gimp and I have it installed and have used it. It seems fine for painting, I just need to get a tablet, but i can't figure out how to use new brushes. Anyone know how?

I tried to buy photoshop off craigslist the other day, I thought I was buying a used version(I assumed that was legal, is it?) but ended up with a hacked one that I couldn't use because it had a trojan horse on it. I just bought a tablet though,(legally) and I'm going to use the elements version that comes with it.

Why not give Paint Shop Pro a try? That's what I use and it's pretty cheap and it's got more oomph than Elements. Go to their site and download the free trial. When I was testing it, I was able to roll over the 30 day trial into 60 days. The only thing I don't like is most of the tutorials out there are geared for Photoshop so I have to do a little bit of translating, but I have yet to run into a lesson in PS I can't do in PSP. I can even work with .psd files in PSP with no problem.
