This ones a little larger than life ...... oil on linen. I have a series of these in a monochrome palette with a underlying colored ground. Some of them kinda have a threatening look which tends to carry over nicely on a wall.

I don't get it, why hasn't anyone commented it yet?

scumble fish,

I think it's a wonderful peace, concentrating on the body language instead of facial expressions, is something ony a few artists dare...those who have mastered the body themselves! I love the bulky appeal and the action going on.
Leaving out the "important" things of the piece leaves more room to interpret and gives this work a lot of atmosphere!
Very well done.

Marko............You are too kind. I appreciate your comments on both my drawing and my painting here in this forum. Like everyone else, some of my work succeeds and some miss the mark. But having another artist of your caliber see something in a painting does make it all worthwhile. Thanks!

Scumble fish great stuff,

your work reminds me of Phil hale, maybee it is the colours or the composition, but it is rather interesting.
you might want to look at his book "the many moods of phil hale"

Boy, I still don't get it!

Have we all degenerated to such a consumating mass that we pass all things unnoticed, that our brains cannot unterstand instantly?

I really grow angry when I see threads like this one disappear, to make way for highly polished banalities. I see dozens of postings on threads that aren't even worth a second, but this thread gets only 2 replies in what...3 days?

I have hopes that people start thinking a little longer, when they get presented such honestly wonderful art and don't walk on ignoring your work, just because "no face is seen".

scumble fish ,

sorry for spamming in you thread, but I really felt it to be important to say somethin, especially after I saw your second painting, which is at least as beautiful as your first.

Thanks for sharing

Marko

I like this new one alot, the angle is more inviting to the viewer than the first. I liked that one too, but I felt kind of stumped when I saw it. I understood the narrative, but I feel blocked by the central figure. I agreed with Marko's first post but I had nothing to add. The second one is easier for me to relate to, a frozen moment in a frenetic scene, a pause for breath. Visually, I wish it had a few more of the deep darks that are in the earlier piece, but keep that hand in motion the way it is.

I think the silence you received isn't apathy, these paintings are challenging.

Well, since I've "outed myself", and you so kindly gave me some cool words.. Here's my two cents about the paintings.

AMAZING.. I think they're Brilliant..

The compositions to me look flawless. I think your brush strokes could be more powerful though. I think some parts are overworked and look too smoothed out. For example the microphone at the bottom left in the one pic; it's beautifully placed compositionally. But it's brushed with the same touch as you've done the skin; I would choose to give the microphone looser strokes with a little more brevity and try to make it look cold and metallic.

But I have to say that is a nitpick( or at least personal preferece), and I'm willing to accept that it may just be genious that I don't understand

I really have to say these pieces really affect me.. They're wonderful.. I'd even pay to have these on my walls..

I love both. But the one with the guy in the suit and microphone, I can almost hear his shirt rustilng..

WOW!!( I love oil paints if you didn't notice)

Hey! Fantastic work! Love how u capture so much bodymoviment on your 2 pieces! lotsa energy on ur hand m8! keep it up!

Just a side note: Marko i believe ppl usually tend to like sketching and "real" (no insult intended, dont get this the wrong way) concept art per se . I mean like character, vehicle, landscape, environment kind of work. Much like Feng_Zhu´s. I do like sketching and stuff but i can never ceasse to be amazed by such wonderfull mastery of moviment.
I just cant compliment enough on the entire composition and mood of the paintings. simply stunning.

5 stars imo!

Cheers :chug:

these are, as all who have posted said , wonderful! i love the bravery of the composition and of course the palette. one thing that would push these further would be to decide on what you want your brush marks to say and where in the painting. certain volumes can be handled more solidly and other areas with more thought on your brush work. give it contrast, areas of interest to keep us jumping around. don't get me wrong, these paintings are already doing this but they can be pushed even further. abstraction that leads us right up to realism with out us even knowing it.

in the first piece i am blown away i like it so much, but one area that is bothering me is the bottom left figure. he seems to be too small or squished in order get what you thought might be the important visual cues. that's about it.

Foster has some good pointers...ones we can all use from a talented dude like that.

More importantly - I love these paintings. It's VERY refreshing to see some different stuff on this site. In a very saturated market, it will be those 'stand-out' guys who succeed.
keep it up

R_M.........I feel like I've been living in a broom closet....Phil Hale's work looks edgy, haven't seen it before. I'll have to get my hands on his book(Many Moods) are at least browse it in the local bookshop. Thanks

Marko.......If you hadn't posted...twice...this thread would have faded from view ...into that ominous black hole we all know as "Page 12345678........" Because of you I decided to throw a few more works up and got some positive response. Hey I can't help it if I'm in need of a pat on the back once in a while. Before there were these forums all I could do was sit alone in a room and rag on my own work...but its just not the same. All kidding aside...thanx again.

bwkeough.......Saying that these paintings are challenging has been one of my most rewarding complements.

endregan...........Thanks, I guess they don't truly qualify as monochrome work. I used a tad of burnt umber mixed with titanium white to warm up the palette.

riq..........What I like about these forums is its like one big classroom and after seeing your work I can't help but listen to your views. Its a funny thing about my painting...when I work traditionally...especially with oil....I tend to not make any attempt to "render" but just paint as if the act was/is an end unto itself. Unlike my digital work which tends to become more tight and illustrative regardless of the subject matter. Painter has helped me loosen up on the digital side but I'm afraid when I pick up a brush I still pay little attention to reality.

SaRcAsm..........I hear what your saying about popular vs painterly. I tend to define it in terms of commercial as opposed to non commissioned work. I must say though that some of the most "in demand artist" here blow me away with their concepts and execution. I only wish the work could be viewed in a context other than a glowing RGB picture Tube.

foster............I was hoping someone with your painterly skill would chime in on these works. Your comments go right to the heart of the matter....Like the issue of scale in the first work. I sure could have used your insight when I was painting the damn things! Maybe I'll start throwing work up in the "In Progress" forum in hopes of catching issues before their set. I've noticed You tend to push pixels around very much like traditional media.....Your work has that "look" I associate with oil. thus I appreciate your insights even more.

loomer..........Fosters comments duly noted and your support happily received thanks
