Hi im new to the site thought i start my own sketch book here. I want to keep everything on here what i learned from here.

I found this on the Photoshop section a digital art tutorial. I followed the steps and this is what i got.

id personally like to see some more traditional work :)

uhmm not sure if you want crits or not, but ill say anyway because this is the internet and i can say what i like at nobody's expense...:)
the portrait is a little off, an idea would be to chuck that picture over your line work and set opacity to 50% or something to see where you went wrong, then perhaps try it again, or keep these things in mind for the next time
keep uploading, and as i said, id like to see more traditional

btw is the joker portrait a trace? like a colour study etc?

Joker inst a trace, i painted over the lines instead of under them. also prob the first picture i spend more than 2 hours on. I been working on this face since I saw the movie so a few weeks here and there. I cant get the hair right tho thats why hes bald. Working on the old man this time painting ontop of the lines. i think its coming out a lot better. I have alot of traditional works hum. I guess i should post some.

ah the hair, i can imagine what youre doing is drawing the hair on top and it just sits there..looking back at you like a wig...or thats what i used to have XD
ive found that if you draw the hair on, then put a thin low opacity covering of paintbrush over, it looks more "stuck" to the head

Thanks for the comment makes sence, i was thinking maybe i was trying to mimic the reference to much that i should just do the hair my own way.
The opacity thing might help a bit. His hair is really curly so blocking it then going into details but.. heh.

that would be the idea
perhaps post a pic up of what youve got so far so people could give advice on tackling it?

from what i can see, before the highlights, it looked decent, but the highlights has made it look out of place
perhaps with the highlights concentrate on one piece/lock of hair, even though its curly, it still goes into sections and locks
also, i think some shadow still needs to be added, for example, where the light is hitting the face, the hair should mimic etc

*yelp*...man that joker was so awesome. iheartmyself is right about those highlights. It is sooo tempting to start plopping highlights into the face here and there but those highlights can actually cause the face to look flat. Yeah check out linda's stuff in that link! I think if you tone those highlights down just alittle you got it nailed. By the way, good going on those eyes.

Thanks alot that joker wasnt very hard to paint well his face. I still cant paint flesh tones it was easier i think because more greenish gray?
