I have been around the idea of opening my sketchbook for a long time...but never managed to do it....
I ll try to change that from now on....

Here we go with my latest study and color practice. I took an old watercolour just to save time drawing and began repainting it with photoshop(finally I regret a little I did it cause it took me longer to fix the mistakes and remake everything than if I had started from zero...I also upload another Batman(I really love Batman for lightning practice.

I am not very good with "computer stuff" so finally i decided to post again the images, so the tumbnail could be a nice recent pic. Most of this speed paintings are a bit old, but as soon as I upload the old stuff I will post recent ones.
comments are welcome!

fantasyartist: yeah, I hope to post more soon....
julkillo,Aneru : muchas gracias gente! me alegro que os gusten!
DaStreets : You hit the point, I am not bad with the pen but its the only technique I feel comfortable with...unfortunately I dont reach half that level on colour illustration...wich is my first goal now.
The7Artist7 : me doing spiderman?? well just visit the blog and you can see how I drew it 6 years ago...now i would do it better(I hope), it would be a dream come true to draw spidey for marvel.
TOOLED!: aT last one crit! yeah you are right...need to improve many things on my anatomy...unfortunately after years on focusing on another points It gets harder and harder for me to avoid old "tics"

Hygami : I m glad you like the winged warrior, it was a bit of a nightmare to produce that sculpture, and so, the concept, and I have at least three or four fail attempts.
johanflod: Its good to hear every now and then that I can master "something" wich is normally my line art, because I lack any minimum level in most of the other stuff( colour, composition, design, flexivility of styles...I could go on and on) But this is the real challenge: to fight and learn.
so, lets everybody jump over our tablets!

spookybabydoll : thanks you, actually that was a sketch for a bande dessinee I was planing....

Redfrog : Nice from you pal, and pretty nice Toys!!! I specially like the pirates, hehe.

hey very awesome sb you got here, the first post is badass, i'm really liking all your characters and your style is pretty wicked as well. you also have some very nice lineart. maybe push the values a bit more in your paintings just to give more contrast. but other than that just keep em coming i wanna see more.

I just realised that it would be much better if you could see how many of my designs finally end in a nice 3D figurine. So from now on I will post the designs with the sculptures whenever I can.

here we go with a concept I really enjoyed doing...for years I wanted to make a cat-man, and finally I was comissioned to do it!
The sculpture is 6 cm tall, and its not finished yet. I will upload later pics of the finished miniature.

thesadpencil: thanks for critics, that´s what I need...if I want to improve.

oh, i forgot to add that if I dont say the contrary, my usual sculptor is Joaquin Palacios. Saludos desde aqui, si me lees, maister!

Well, here we go with more stuff of my comic project. Its very old stuff, but actually I havent improved that much on my sketching skills the past three or four years, I have during this time, focused on inking, sculpting and painting (and travelling) so they fit quite well with my recent postings.

Badass sketchbook you have here. I really like this one (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=463518&stc=1&d=1221396670). IT's always nice to see an artist's process. I'm really digging the fantasy pics on this page. Nice ink work, looking forward to coming back in here.

I should apologize for posting so much old stuff in here, but actually my recent works....are for clients(wich is good!) and that means I cant show anything so far....besides, working professionally doesnt let me so much time to make personal work, and having bought a flat recently makes me use this free time to build furniture and spend time with my wife.....so again I will post very old artwork. But it is artwork I really love, even technically is out of phase.

You can see as well how I was doing 8 years ago, yeah, they are from 2000, before THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING was first released, and so, with much more influence of BACKSI movie, and other illustrators like ANGUS MCBRIDE.

Hope you enjoy this FAN ART stuff of LOTR.

PieMonster: thanks, man. Kabir were the "bad guys" of the story.
Autumnal Dream: I am glad, thats is what I love about CA...the inspiration I get from other artists, the sharing and learning we get.
Farsh: Yeah, its lovely to have my drawing made into sculpts...the pity is that I dont do them myself(a thing technically I could do....if I had the nuts)
Eon: thank you. I hope to be able to keep updating so you may return often.

Again, thank you all for your comments, be sure I try to visit almost all your skecthbooks....and if I hadnt left a comment yet....dont worry, I will...

Well...I was wrong about the date....my memory fails...I actually began re-reading the book and drawing things in christmas, but this character concepts were made in february, already in 2001...
by the way, I read and drew all this in IRELAND. Wich was very inspiring, because for me, Ireland is, and was, a real SHIRE in the real world.
Hello people from Kerry!

I really love your pencil drawings, you have a really confident pencil stroke, but you add plenty of lovely details. You were saying that you've been practicing alot of sculpting and inking lately, is there any chance of seeing some of this stuff? :}

QETALIVAN
September 25th, 2008, 06:45 AM
Finally I will post something new.....this time is a chick you all know....but now the complete image. It took me an entire week of work, mainly because it was the first fully render digital illustration I had done in a couple of years. Second, it was the first made in photoshop(all previous ones were made mainly with Painter) and finally, and this was the worst...it began with a comic style lineart base....and I turned to a very realistic piece....without reference, never ever work without reference unless you have master how light works! otherwise you will find yourselves repeating and rerendering for hours and will get a final mediocre result. Fortunately the dramatic lightning hides many of the mistakes.

Renegade89: Muchas gracias!!

lilou: Thaaanks!! now go to practice! :lifedrawing:

Jacky-Boy: thanks a lot..I wish I had 10% of my confidence in drawing with color....(now its me who go to practice....)
About more sculpting....I will be posting more...but unfortunately 80% of my work was done for a company and I never kept pictures of my sculptures(I always thought I would have time to do that later...yes, stupid me)

Hey there! Great inks! dynamic and nice characters.

The coloring is at the moment a bit vague. There are some good color theory tutorials on the board...they helped me a ton figuring out values, chroma and all that good stuff.

I like how it turned out. When you put that much time into something you end up learning. That's what really counts. Next time it'll take you less time to produce a piece of that level or you'll produce better art with the same time allocation.

For the elf though I think the green background is too close to his greenish skin tone. The dark blue with the scultures work a lot better. For some reason I'm really drawn to the lines you used for his boots in the sketch. Really like your ink.

carlosranna: thanks a lot!
Bruma: Vaya, muchas gracias por tomarte la molestia, guapa. Espero que te pases a menudo por aqui.
Delmar:Finally, the links, hehe, thanks, man.
Eon: Totally true...I learned first, than preparation and planing can save a lot of time. Fortunately, I have kept improving since then...but in black and white so far...

Im a fantasy art fãn and yours are great...really huge detail and the compo on the characters are really lovelly...the only thing i didnt see and you have obviously the skill to do it was some wonderfull backgrounds to complement the characters...

Well, for first time in ages, I post something just fresh from the oven, a speedy I finished 1 minute ago...Couldnt focus on my current comission...

Farsh: This is not the first design I get for production, if that is what you thought...I have been designing fantasy characters for miniature companys for almost four years(seldom comissions, Thou this year I have been quite active)

M0RS: thanks, dude.

S.C.P: thanks a lot.Soon I will post more greyscale images.....but you have to wait for now...

pen-paper-renegade: I must admit I never behaved like a real illustrator, and so, I have not that many "illustrations". My main production consist in comics, character design, sculpting and literature. Only now I am focusing more in learning about value, composition(colour sometimes)....need to do more backgrounds...

Nettle_Mountain
October 10th, 2008, 08:16 AM
Yeah, backrounds are hard when it is so easy to do OC or just add some grey values over there...
Only critique would be that sometimes your pictures here are maybe a little bit too big or it just might be me and my screen resolution... (1440-900)
more stuff, looking good there

After a long time without posting, now finally I have some stuff that is coming out....so I can show it to you. First, some more sculptures(in this case they are sculpted by different people, wich I dont even know) the painting in the figures is done by Jose Manuel Palomares, one of the best model painters nowadays(you can find more about him in: http://www.miniartproductions.com/

Finally some promotion of our new coming tabletop game. A game about Pirates, Rum and Treasures. For those wargamers who might be interested, please have a look at the links.

Soon I will post more stuff. oh, the black and white illustrations were made for the rulebook. the simple colour illustrations are card game images.

hope you like it, guys.

Nettle_Mountain: yeah...backgrounds, need to work on it...about pics being big just ctrl+scroll the mouse wheel for a moment to adjust the size, and then come back to normal anytime a pic is too big (or too small)

Buckster: I say again, sculptures here are not made by me(although I am sculptor as well) they are mostly sculpted by Joaquin Palacios. thanks for your comments, yes my style comes from comic books...I can say I am a comic book artist who began working professionally as sculptor and has ended up in digital illustration.

First of, great figures, I am really impressed, especially with that Barbarian King, he is amazing. The others are good too, but he was just excellent! I like the illustrations, but the one with the piratess is a little confusing. Her legs seem to come from a body at the far edge of the table, but the lady herself seem to be sitting at the side. Even so the rest is impeccable. I don't have to much to add, except this makes me wish I played tabletop games again!
