Hey this daily sketch thing is cool, since I usually don't have any ideas on what to draw.
Here's some man trying to explain his way out of punishment lol.

Here we go, the Pharaoh of Pain and suffering... Making sure those whom he punishes beg for death... Or some such...

Thank you for the topic William, I was able to use it to get some much needed practice with layer modes and slapping in textures using photoshop. Unfortunately, I started to go unreasonably long so I cut myself off here to stay in the spirit of the DSG.
Also, along with being so incomplete, somehow my Esiphet morphed from a fearsome Raptor-headed diety into his snakey second cousin once removed...
http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/7900/stranierodsg1370wiprf9.jpg
llothcat - I like his look alot (very true to what I think of with egyptian dieties and such) and I like the use of the man for perspective and size. Though, I want to yell to the little man to flee instead of taunting Esiphet, as he seems to have wriggled loose. ;)
Noch - Great atmosphere, nice and horribly infernal. I was torn, as I wanted to see more of him and the details you put in (I love the shoulder pieces for example), but I can't see how to do much more without brightening things too much and loosing some of the mood. So I think you made the right choice.
Razorleaf - Very cool choice for the head. You have the shading on the body working, so I would have loved to have seen this without relying on the heavy black outlines (if you were in photoshop, maybe dropping the opacity or fooling with the lines in a different color after the fact if you didn't like loosing them entirely)!
Sudsy - I really like the pose alot, as well as the outfit. The blood on the sickle is dark and distracts a bit at this point, but that would work itself out if you continued on with the image I'd think.
Hamsta - The skeletal head is a great idea - novel but 100% spot on. Man, I hope that pole isn't the chosen form of punishment!!! :P
benkashmir - Great pic and concept. I particularly love the choice of pattern for the scales/skin (especially considering how I was being way too heavy handed on my own pic - I am jealous in a good way :) )!
PlasmaErnst - I really like all of the details that you have added for his costume and look - especially the clever idea to have tha large rear claw we are so used to moved to the hand. The chest/collar-bone area distracts me a tiny bit (my mind couldn't sort out if its a small chest or large collarbone), but I do like the rest of the work you were dong on the skin (especially on the head/face).
Self-Crit - I fell into my trap of being too afraid of going too dark or light in the grey-scale, and as such made my guy's face way too flat. Also, I need to work quicker and learn to use colors better to liven things up (my dull colors just make the already flat areas much worse).
Great work all.

my tenet for the year, as yet unrealised, was to concentrate on dynamism. Here I am, returning to this focus as best I can manage.
Took hour and a half - ouch!

It's not very good, because I did it in 25 minutes - but I wanted to enter this because it's weirdly fascinating.

I had this great idea for what i was gonna do with this, but as I experimented,
I accidentally kinda murdered what I had already done, and was kind of unwilling
to start over, so this is what I left it at:

Straniero Self-punishment (re:pole) is part of Esiphet's schtick. :P
Your god is looking rather friendly for the god of punishment (or even a cousin, once removed :teeth: ) and we don't get anything that really tells us what he does as a god.
The cloth and scales are an interesting start, but neither fits form very well.
The hair(?) is completely flat.

Lots of good work in this thread - I especially like oalonzo, Apocalypse_Rex and Noch's entries..
I misread god for godess, but here it is anyway, oc 1.1 and ps - a couple of hours.

I took my inspiration for this from Gods in Chaos by Enki Bilal. I love how he made the gods look aged with cracked skin like it was very old stone.

my entry. it's very late, the breast area is extremely crowded (hands/weapons/clothes) and there are anatomy issues, just to mention a few serious flaws... but I actually drew something again, after 2 weeks...

Hi! Long time no see... dunno if any one of ya remember me, but I'm back to practice!
This one took forever since I'm out of practice. :( I used photo filter to achieve a more realistic color, but I promise I'll not use that next time, I learned a lot from it.. i kept on forgetting to really use color wheel and use limited color scheme to achieve realism... I do understand how it works, but it seems like a lot of work.. any tips?
Anyways here's my sketch! I have had a lot of fun with this one! Made in Photoshop of course with goro's brushes set.

@DM7 : You should try to paint in gray scale.
then you color your work on an other layer in Color blending mode.
It helps to get right values.
here s mine.
