I'm having some trouble in the shading department, hence the reason i havent posted anything for almost a month. Can someone plz give me some pointers, i use a cerved croshatching technique which isn't too bad but it often comes out to dark in the wrong areas. Which grade is the best to use for shading? i know HB is the best for initial skethching and stuff like that, but i know first hand if ure not an expert its not always best for shading.

annubissl that comes with practice! what i think you should do in your case is experiment with different lead types. like for darker areas use a softer pencil, and than try using a harder pencil for lighter areas. you could also try puting less layers of hatching and also try different pressures. another thing you could think about is using a gummy eraser, with these you can do many different techniques of erasing. try dabbing the gummy on the darker areas to lighten them up. That is pretty much all i can think of for you, and just try many things and experiment with your techniques. also maybe next time you have a question you should post an image to help explain what you are trying to accomplish this might help people see better what you are asking. well good luck and i hope this helps a little!
