I think its a really nice concept. What I mainly feel you need to work on is your use of perspective. This rendering looks axonometric, or orthographic. Considering the scale of this craft, forshortening should definately come in to play.

I also think you could have spent more time on the text that is "painted" on the side of the ship.

nice design

i agree with dustin on the axonometric problem.
also get the darks darker—more contrast. try to get the markers more even looking so you can't see the lines of overlap when putting them down on paper (i know it's hard, it takes practice).

The perspective is only an issue if you are doing the work for an illustration piece. If its a concept than the use of a non-perspective straight forward view is ideal to run through as many complete designs as possible.
I like the look of this as well.

very kool design.

Hey thanks for yout input:)

Dustin: as far as perspective goes, this was a quick rundown, just like fisa said, not a final render. But I do agree, that cheap perspective is kinda confusing.
Ron: yeah, I know, the markers leave nasty scars allover the place, but if it can be done, ill do it:)
Fisa: thanks for understanding. And dns2k: thanks:) im quite proud myself.

ya ya the perspective. But dont worry bout it too much. I was just thinkin though, those are some mighty big air intakes and engines etc. plus that a really small guy standing next to it. I can just see him getting sucked up and spit out the other end in about a million smaller burning little bits. Call me an cynical ass, but i have an obsession with things being completely functional, or atleast that they have the apearence to be so.

On another note I really love the rendering technique you used (markers?):D

Hahah Redrook. nice thought. And yes. Marker made. mostly. did some slight touchups in PS ..

Heres a buncho quick sketches on the same project, could almost call em thumbnails. For your viewin pleasure:)

the last one looks very star wars inspired. I love em!

Edit*: Oh ya the last sketch, theres an error i missed. The way you drew the lower half it seems that its going at an angle but the way you drew the upper half it seems its sideways. Perspective a bit off thats all

Amazing! The sketches are a great addition.
I agree with the people who commented on the perspective.
But my comments would have been a lot more positive.
I guess the "crit me hard" invitation worked a little too well.

The concepts are impressive and I love the marker rendering.
Why don't you use decent sheets of paper for the sketches btw? :p ;)

Very nice sketches. The same perspective thing sorta applies to most of your thumbs. I like the concepts though especially the bottom heavy starwarsish one and the second carrier. Good Job. :D

thanks all:)

And Sig, I love this paper! squared paper rocks. always worked when drawin in math class, works just as fine now:)

The starwarsish one is the only one where I actually tried using real perspective. Hopefully I'll finish a marker render of it today as well.

well see.

:chug: cheers, and thanks for keepin me going:)

Hey!

Apart from the prespective issues that everyone else has already mentioned i dont see anything wrong with the design. Oh just one thing, the letters dont seem to follow the positions of the ship other tha that its cool. Very nice cleanup job from the squared paper. Must have been a pain in the ass. =)

Good job

I think there is something wrong with the perspective. Your picture is made too much in axonometry. Also I'd like to see it with deeper shadows (f.e.: the back of the ship). There is also an illusion, that Your ship is set into the ground.

Dude, you should totally be on the Concept Art team for the new Thunderbirds film! Love these designs! The perspective is slightly flawed but I'm gonna bet you'll have that ironed out in your next designs.

Whatever it was someone (think it was red_rook) said about the small guy being sucked into the engine turbine and thus flawing the designs functionality was wrong. Otherwise every craft with a open turbine (all conventional jets) would be flawed in their functionality. Red_rook, how many jets do you stand in front off when they're taking off?

*bump*

Yaseck, I think, in fact, that the ship is a tad into the ground.. boy its gotta way allot:)

And, hehe guys, if you thought the perspective was silly erlier, youll have a field day on this most recent one:P

Tell me what u think!

I myself was pleased with the render, but the actual angle chosen isnt very impressive. doesnt do the design justice :/
On another note, I cheated on this, fixed lots of marker screwups in ps

Very nice!

The rendering is really well done, but there's alot more to good concepts than great rendering skills.

Without being an expert on the matter I still can see some flaws in the design that imo needs to be fixed.

Think about airflow or aerodynamics when doing aircraft concepts. None of these two aircrafts would be able to fly. Ofcause, they are futuristic aircrafts but there should always be some design choices based in reallife aerodynamics, physcis and airplane designs.

And even if these babies were meant for space travel there are issues like no need for wings and airintakes etc.

Also think about scale. The really big cannon infront of the bomber just ruins the scale of the thing. If the scale is not persistent thoughout the concept then you risk getting the toy-feel out of it. And I dont think that is what you were aiming for with these pieces.

Also be really anal about small details like where to but intakes and exhausts. Right now you have exhaust pointing right at intakes, which really isnt that good of an idea... :)

You are defentivly on the right track. Now you just need the 'basic' inhouse knowledge of aerodynamics and get that to shine through your work.

:)

Hey boom ,thanks for those words of wisdom.

I agree, to a certain extent, that theyd have trouble with in atmosphere flying. but Ive got it all figured out:)

The "exhausts" under the dropship are in fact VTOL engines that can rotate 90 degrees down, and hence, not fire their fumes into the second air intake:)

genius aint it.

I really see your point on the "toy factor" that my poor bomber has... in fact, the whole thing looks like its from ducktales, but what the heck. Ill try and kill those toy details on my next project!

Thanks for speakin up.

Very nice indeed, love the blue :)

Have you tried anything asymetric? I think some asymetric designs done in your style would look super uber-duper :)

These are nice, but look hevily influenced by the new star wars. Ships look very similar to the ones in the Episode I and II art books.

Hey nard, I gotta admit that the bomber is chiang influenced. has a bit of trade federation tank in it.

But the dropship is more of a boeing/harrier/hoverbike merge. But hey, a mans gotta get influenced from somewhere!

And Target, no, not recently, I should though:) good idea.

Please note one doesnt use a conventional jet as drop ship, I mean the current "dropship" we use for troop transport, is the helicopter, which doesnt have this open turbine problem.
Lets assume for a momment that this dropship was flying around with the mission of unloading a bunch of guys in a hot war zone. What happens does he land, turn off all of his engines wait for them to cool down, gets all the guys of waits till they get to a safe distance away and then start up his engines again? Meanwhile this thing is taking really heavy hits and all the guys inside are dead.

Just a thought.

Really like the second one, the bomber. Its great how you increased the contrasts . I really like it. Also the perspective is almost perfect now.

Cheers

I actually saw -on oprah- how someone got sucked into the air intake of a jet of some sort. quite scary.

I sure dont want my marines to do that. hence the unloading ramp isnt even near the vtol engines:P

thanks for your words man, makes me think.
