Im back with a post, and about damn time too. Our school finally gave us some webspace. Way ta think there SCAD.

I want to get some feedback and encouragement for the models im doing in class, i hope you guys can help me out.

This'll be my female char...
It is a game model with a budget of 10k but im gonna try and keep it under 5k

As ive have had Poopinmymouth point out to me, the legs/torsa are somewhat short, but luckily thats easier to change in MAX than it is in pencils =)

her nose looks to skinny and there is more of an indentation between the eye socket and the bridge of the nose and the edge of the lips should line up to where here pupils would lie(verticals)you might want to try to sink the eye back a bit also ilike the body

you may find that what works in 2d may not always work in 3d so after you follow the ref you may want to make some hip shot ajustments that may make her loose her resemblanc to the reference but in the end the final product will be stronger

The model looks fantastic, But you can make it better.

1.You have a few 5 or 6 sided faces in the head nothing a little poly spliting wont solve.
2. Either her body is too small or her head too large. I would focus more on the skull structure rather than going straight for the hair.
3. Same thing with the backpack add it later.
4.Too much definition between the forearm and the bicep. unless she is meant to be storng, but by her build she looks petite.

like i said looks great, for a start

sony - thanks! ill be taking care of that mirror as soon as i finish her up.

the good war - Good tips. Especially the mouth, i knew there was something i wasnt seeing there

TheTick - Good feedback. Since the model is for a game modeling class im gonna have to keep it as a single mesh so i gotta do the backpack and hair attached. Took care of that forearm. the whole arm needed work ;)

Almost time for textures...the best part.

Heres a little something ive been working on in the meantime, another model for my class.

If you guys have any more feedback, please give it. Im still revising her a bit before i start on the textures. I want to try and get her to looks as much like my sketch as i can before i start texturing too.

cheers...
WG

PS: Oh yeah....shes at 4684 polys right now so i should make my 5k limit goal

Can I point out some anatomical errors? The eyes need to be a little narrower, and the nose should be just a tab bit wider. I love that third pic... the profile, gorgeous. I think you could make her a little more interesting though. Add some more details and such, whether it's through actual geometry, or just through the textures. Also, her jawline goes back to far, and thus makes her head to deep. Bring the jawline forward, and bring the head back towards the neck a bit, and you'll be flyin. It's a really good start though. Keep it up. Peace

yo, Phuzion. Yes, please give feedback. you guys dont know how much thats helped me so far. you start losing your ability to pick out flaws after you stare at something so long.
You braught up some very good pointers...i realized the jaw was way too big vertically when i went back and looked at it.
Thanks for the compliments! Especially coming from an artist of your caliber =)

As for details, yeah i know. Im trying to decide what to do. I have some more outlandish ideas but right now i just have to get her to a decent point for class.

Alrighty, another progress post for you guys..

it kinda illustrates what im trying to go for with the hair. Right now i rather dislike it.
Does anyone know how to make custom brushed in PS6? I cant seem to figure it out. Also, if you know of any good techniques or tutorials on how to make hair...please lemme know.
cheers

I'm not sure if you tweaked the anatomy or not yet, it could just be the angle, but it's looking a lot better now! I like this direction more than the last one, it seems to fit the model more. There are some texturing issues around the hair line, which I'm sure you've seen already. Also, play with the skin tone of the face more. Look at peoples' faces and see how the tone varies from the forehead down the chin. There's usually some reddish blush going on around the nose and cheeks. Also, be careful about making her hair appear gray, rather than black ;p It's looking better though, just keep pluggin' away! Peace

Hey! im back. Sorry for not posting any more process, but finals were pretty hectic this quarter.

I do have some new stuff to show though! Once again, id love you guys' feedback on the stuff. here goes...

heres the girl full body and done to the point that i could turn it in
I intend to go back and make some changes before i consider her a portfolio peice but im pretty happy with her, and im well on my way.
http://studentpages.scad.edu/~wvande20/webpics/girl1.jpg

Next is the male counterpart. I used the previous mesh and made the necessary changes to make it a man, so it saved me alot of work. Didnt have time to texture it though, sadly. Another job for the portfolio
http://studentpages.scad.edu/~wvande20/webpics/dude1.jpg

and finally my vehicle concept. took me forever to decide what i was going to do but once i got my idea, it materialized pretty quickly. I think im finally starting to learn more about painting textures too, a good thing since this is my least experienced area right now.
http://studentpages.scad.edu/~wvande20/webpics/vehicle2.jpg

Its good to be done, and im glad i can share these with you guys.
cheers!

to make custom brushes in ps 6 all you have to do is draw the shape that you want the brush to be, then select the area around what you have drawn, then go to EDIT> Define Brush. and thats it

easy
:)
