Some update of my work.

July 3rd, 2008, 08:50 AM
Good work, that last one is imo best so far.
I also like those pencil thumbnails, they have some potential.
You might want to paint your enviros with bigger brushes first and block in the main shapes. Using bigger brushes helps defining the forms a lot easier. Also you might find helpful to check your values by turning the painting to grayscale.

Thanks man. It is really some valuable information you gave me. I'll try to do my next painting using technique above.

So as promised today's environments. I could complete only two. I should stop somehow to render details. But if i draw 15min art it is way to bad.

Valerij V.
September 14th, 2008, 02:50 PM
Some latest works. I realized that i was drawing only from imagination. It is wrong. The one with the ocean done using reference photo. I will use them in the future a lot more.

I really enjoy your environments, it's something I'm really week at and love your atmospheric perspective. I would love to see something a bit more refined or finished in how you render certain aspects: rocks, organics, etc seem to be much looser than your man-made aspects which can clash in the image.

Otherwise, om nom nom nom I love environments.

September 20th, 2008, 10:52 AM
Hey great pictures! I love your style of drawing. Great perpectives. :D

Valerij V.
September 24th, 2008, 08:41 AM
HI SneakersSpeakers. Well I will post some finished work as soon as i get the idea of how to render correctly rocks, organics and so on. At the moment i want to catch the lighting and shadows together to simulate real objects. having difficult time at this. What i do is get reference, look at it and began to throw round brush strokes with darker color then goes lighter ones, shadows and highlight.

Thanks a lot Chane:)

I will post a lot of my work soon.

Nice work mate, i really like the thumbnails and sketches you have been doing. Id echo the earlier comments about using large brushes to define your forms. These show a lot of potential though, keep it up!

September 25th, 2008, 11:54 AM
Thanks space-sprayer. This is my problem. I start with big brush, then i jump straight to details. I know that i need to establish value first with bigger brush. I geas i need more practice at this.

Some little update. I feel really bad today, so manage to do only this.

Valerij V.
September 26th, 2008, 12:56 PM
Hallo. I don't know what's wrong but i absolutely hate what i painted today. I decided to post this shit anyway.

September 26th, 2008, 02:03 PM
i specially like the space launcher work, nice persp and design...also great improvement on the landscapes enviros..keep at it

Senira
September 26th, 2008, 02:11 PM
Your environment studies are lovely. I have an opposite problem from you; I tend to start putting in details before fully planning my compositions, which always leads to problems later on. The black-and-white thumbs you've done are good examples how to work a composition in the initial stages. I'd love to see more environments from you, so keep it up!

Valerij V.
September 28th, 2008, 01:44 PM
Thanks Dan Valkar i will certainly keep at it:)

2 Senira: Yes, indeed this is my problem as well. Today i was trying to do composition first before detailing. Not as usual. Just stop for a mitute when you realized that you began to detail too early and try to plan your image once more.

Today's little update.

Valerij V.
September 28th, 2008, 01:47 PM
This is my try using reference images at one place.
Just throw couple images in and then draw it on new canvas.
So here goes result:)

September 28th, 2008, 02:09 PM
Great enviros!!

My only crit is for your Matte Paintings. It´s very clear where you have photowork and brushwork. I would choose one of those feelings to unify the image more.

Keep it up!

Valerij V.
September 29th, 2008, 07:25 AM
Thanks Carlosranna. I noticed this after i completed the drawing.

So today i was reading ImagineFx and see Gary Tonge's advise on painting landscapes. Decided to give it a try. So here is result. I think this one is better than previous but still i need to learn a lot about depth. I don't mention everything else that i must learn:D
Glad to hear some advises and critique.

Cool environments, I really like this one: http://conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=473944&stc=1&d=1222361625 Great colours and texture.
About the last one, maybe it would help to make the foreground elements a bit lighter and describe the volumes and forms. But you have a really good starting point which you can expand from. Studying anatomy could be something to consider too, that way you can give your environments more interest by adding figures...

Btw, you edge control has improved a lot.

Keep it up:)

Valerij V.
September 29th, 2008, 09:33 AM
Thanks a lot zelda_geek for your comment. I reworked last drawing according to your advice. As for studying anatomy, yes you are absolutely right. I will study this too.

I hope this one is better. But still my building forms as weak. But that's ok i will learn that in a couple:)

Really nice enviroments and I like your spaceship designs!
I was just thinking about your sketches (post #38). Maybe you should try sketching larger, they seem kind of small considering the amount of detail you´ve put in them.

Your environments are very strong. They have wonderful color and scale.

Hallo, it is me again:D

Thanks Mumph. I appricitate that:) Maybe you are right about those small sketches. I will draw larger next time:)

Thanks a lot thespianmonsalvo for kind words. This motivates me to work harder.
Thanks Towarlock.

Today i was sitting almost all day in my room. So here goes result. I hope u like it. Otherwise i spent my time not properly.

Hi. Today's depth study. Still having difficult times at this but i will beat this soon:D

Valerij V.
October 3rd, 2008, 08:06 AM
Thanks dcriler. Diding noticed your post last time. SOrry for that.

Today i looked at Craig Mullins work. Amaizing man. Still can't completely relax while doing spedies. I forgot that fact, that this is only basic composition and mood painting but when it comes to detailing i began to detail it, without detail it looks horrible. The result is bad because of stressed situations. If i could completely relax while drawing... maybe someone know some tricks?

October 3rd, 2008, 08:36 AM
Some quick 45min jungle.

I'd suggest staying away from the preset leaf and grass brushes. Instead I'd suggest drawing those with a simple round brush so you'll do all the work yourself.

Relaxation comes with confidence. Confidence comes with experience. Experience comes with practice. :)

October 13th, 2008, 02:17 PM
hey man, you are improving like a crazy person, very nice to see indeed. Speedpaints helped me along very well as well so keep doing them.

the basics are looking better and better, now I would just like to see some evidence of culture and life in the paintings.

Keep it up!
Cheers

Neet enviros here man! There is something I really need to work on! I like the one where there is a centralized red area in a foreground of blue/lilac, keep at it!

nice enviros you got here...
I would suggest to vary the amount of details you put in each pictures...
lots of details around the focal points....not so much elsewhere...this would
add dynamism to your pictures and leads the eye of the viewer...
this can simply be done by changing a lot brush sizes while painting...
your digitals looks sometimes a bit too uniform..if you see what i mean...

keep it up anyway, still great stuff

October 13th, 2008, 04:49 PM
Nice stuff. I especially like the small thumbnails. There's already some good progress from page one, keep it up! :)

Valerij V.
October 14th, 2008, 04:29 PM
Thanks Mischeviouslittleelf. Environments are very fun to draw.

Creatinity thanks for advise. This is what i'm going to try next time.

Tnanks aiRaGe. Glad to hear that:)

So today i was exploring brushes and i used Levente Peterffy's technique of drawing. (first some random photos for establishing color palette and so on). Really liked this man. Respect.
Ok result.

Fantastic work - there is some superb work and you seem to be progressing so quickly. Really nice colour palette and great tonal control give real depth to some of these. Look forward to seeing more.

...if you think a few of these are shit, then I'll go kill myself silently, haha.

I really like your style! Course I say that a lot, but really, the way your forms fade into the distance looks really appealing, and the whole environment feel is nailed down.

btw that's one hell of a result! Keep it up.

Valerij V.
October 20th, 2008, 01:30 AM
Thanks basementPicasso.

Glad that you like it Shalite. Sometimes i hate what i paint , but i know that it is because of little practice.

SO yesterday at work i painted this one. Truly fast. Maybe 1.1h.

Some lovely work here. THe lighting seems to be going well in the paintings, keep that up, and make sure you dont forget it when you are working in pencil too. Keep the brushes big, and keep focusing on blocking out the painting with clear lighting, and i think you will do great.

Space-sprayer thanks for advise mate. That should help.

So yesterday i was experimenting with custom brushes. So began to draw some random lines and finally the result is appeared. I didn't know what is result should be. 3hours of work.

Damn...you´re improving fast, but you do a lot of practice too I see...well, it shows...haha.
I think you got some really strong pieces in your environment practice and playing with many different styles.

Keep it up, I´ll be back for more...Cya
