Factor 5, a privately held company, was founded in Cologne, Germany in 1987 by five gaming enthusiasts. Now located in San Rafael, California - just 15 miles north of San Francisco- they have earned a reputation in the video game industry and with gamers, as one of the front-runners in developing exciting games for a variety of platforms. Factor 5 goes to the very limit of each platform they have ever worked on and produces games which stand out for their technical excellence and playability.

Description
The role of the Artist at Factor 5 is dynamic and duties vary depending on the need of the project. The Factor 5 artist may be required to create anything from concept art to fully modeled and textured characters and environment assets.

Major Responsibilities:

* Create high quality art assets as assigned by the project Art Lead and Producer:
o shaders and texture maps including color maps, normal maps and effect maps
o 3D objects for in-game use
o visual effects, user interface, or artwork for any game sub-system
o conceptual artwork
* Understand the impact of assets on game performance
* Produce assets on time for milestone delivery
* Work closely with Level Designers and Technical Artists to implement art assets
* Understand the technical limitations of console development with regards polygon counts, memory constraints, texture budgets and shader costs
* Adhere to the technical guidelines and art style set down by the Art Lead
* Verify in-game that art assets are bug-free, functional, and do not break the build
* Communicate weekly planning and progress to Leads and other team members
* Collaborate with team members in the development of the game as a whole
* Improve workflow and communicate knowledge with team through documentation
* May be required to generate assets that could be used for marketing purposes
* Other Responsibilities may be added as needed

Qualifications:

* Solid foundation with traditional art skills
* Expertise in at least one of the following: modeling, texturing, concepting, visual effects
* Aptitude for creative problem-solving across disciplines (art, design, production, tech art)
* Solid understanding of art pipelines and how to get the most out of them
* Experience with Maya, Photoshop, and ZBrush or Mudbox; familiar with other art tools.
* Ability to handle both technical and artistic issues during game development
* Able to work effectively in a team atmosphere while tracking to schedules
* At least two years of game industry experience producing assets for milestone delivery
* Awareness of current trends, technologies and issues in gaming
* A passion for making fun, visually spectacular games
