View Full Version : The Little Red X

A lot of people still seem to be using imageshack, or other similar hosting services for their drawings, paintings and whatnot. The problem is that after the image goes dead, the original poster often can't tell, since the image is usually cached locally in the temp files and will still display correctly for them.

I know there has been an effort to convince everyone to just use the CA attachment manager, but I'm still seeing these guys :404sign: all over the place. Maybe we should do another information drive to spread the word or something. Perhaps we could create a feature like the 'thanks' button, to quickly inform people that their images are no longer displaying correctly. Or maybe come up with some simple way to flag threads with more red X's than actual pictures, so that the authors could update them or something. I guess you could just use private messages, or make a new post in the thread, but it might be a little easier to get the message across if we had something a bit more official looking in place.

Seconded!!

Not sure this is the appropriate place but whatever...
Today i had the unpleasant surprise to notice that alot of pictures wouldnt show in M@ exclusive sketchbook.
Thought it was because of my options setting but emily g told me otherwise; hosting problem!

Too many losses, its gotta stop!!!

One reason people use their own hosting (like I assume M@ does), is so if they want to update the image or take it down for any reason, they only have to edit one thing on their site, not search for every place they posted the image just to make the changes.

I was also going through M@`s sketchbook when I saw lots of pics are missing. Same thing with Marko`s tutorial. Its quite a shame. :(

Another reason some people don't use attachments is because they don't get the chance to write a comment for each individual picture.

Personally I can't see how it's even worth the hassle. :P

Once the images are attached, they can be individually inserted into the post (using the paperclip icon at the top of the message window) exactly the same as if you used the image tags. Only non-inserted attachments are boxed at the bottom of the post.

Oh thank you Elwell!
I knew there was a tip or something but never really bothered to search!
