Fixed the legs, tell me if they're still all wrong. I'm not
how to draw out the ankle. I'm having some
trouble on the hand at this point... Need to fix
the arm too. The muscles just don't seem right.

Hi, your painting's good and you definetly have a very unique style. Nice range of colours you use too. I don't really do that much painting though so I'm not that much help.
Can we see any actual sketches though? Keep going.

I'm thinking about putting more of the robots in it.
It looks awefull right now but it's still in a very early stage.

I'm not satisfied with the colouring yet
but it's kinda a base anyway... I guess...

Another WIP, still not finished..
I think I'll put some sharks in it too, to
indicate the scale and to create some depth

Done in the train this morning, took me about an hour.
It's been 5 weeks since I've been photoshopping. I still don't have photoshop and used demo version of pixelmator (it sucks) for this one. I just could't stick to traditional media any longer. I will post my sketches and art done the last 5 weeks as soon as possible.

Just made this sketch on my way to school, in a train.
Just like the previous one.
Again done in about an hour and in pixelmator.
Paid attention to composition and creating depth.

hey J. meave,
nice start of a sketchbook. :) I love that octopus drawing, it's dynamic, colorfull and it has a good rendering.
and your last image, the snake, is good in composition and coloration. :) keep it up, you'll improve very fast. I can see some good progress here!
cheers,

Hi, that last sea creature got my attention it looks really squishy (which is a good thing actually i guess :) )
my tip is to work a lot looser if you know what i mean dont go for a too polished look, i like it when you see the conceptphase behind a painting, some rough lines not erased out and just not too polished overall. e.g. you apple looks a bit sterile try to keep it loose :)
good luck!

I finally got photoshop back after 5 weeks. 5 whole weeks! God, I'm addicted!
Now, for the monster... The belly is anoying me, it needs a serious redo.
@ InFlame - Thank you for your nice comment. I definately wil keep it up XD.
@ Katzenmintze - I know what you mean. I'm trying 'cus I love the loose, sketchy look myself. I've always been quite the perfectionist (well, in drawing atleast) and I'm used to draw in detail right from the start. It'll take some time to get used to "building up".

Here's a nice WIP I'm working on.

@ Bullsey
One day I will be a real pro... :^^;:
@ Monkey
I had trouble with the shading on the tree, I always end up using way too
much black. Thought it was wise to practice shading and get the black using
thing out of my system. I'm working up to complete still-life scenes right now.
Animals and humans are hard but comments like these give me the courage
to work on it XD.
@ maeshanne
thanks, I like your stuff too. Your latest one is lovely.
@ Bigtayter
I've got photoshop back a while ago, I really missed it.

wow good stuff here. Your pencil work is GREAT. I'd like to see more of your pencil work. Are they from refs or imagination? I wish I could get as neat as that from imagination. More pencil work please. Pweeeeez, Pretty preeeeeze ;) Good stuff. Keep it up.

@ Oakseed:
Thanks.
I always draw from imagination (except for birdskull).
And as requested: some pencil work;
The snake (after a mayan god) was the sketch from which
I made the dragon out of.
Whatever I do with the drawing, I can't get it to look good digitally.
My sketchbook has this soft, yellow paper. Wonderful for sketching but
it doesn't work well with scanners/cameras.
I wish I made the dragon on white paper.
Took me about 6 days. As usual done in the train and bus.

Thanks :teeth:
I'm working on drawing from life... (As in the skull I made today)
I'm no good at it... yet, humans and animals are hard for me.
As said before I usually draw from my imagination.

Geez, more and more pencils :) Your rendering is beautiful. How long have you been drawing?
Corvus monedula
January 5th, 2009, 01:20 PM
@ Oakseed
Well... let's see. I've always been drawing but ofcourse theres a difference between the child crap everybody goes trough and actual serious drawing.
I really started to get serious about 6 years ago.
I wish I had more time to draw. I think I have done more drawing the last 3 days then I did between the beginning of summer and the beginning of this week.
I hate it when I think about how much better I could have been if I had done more drawing in all these years.
Anyway here's another update.
It's for the Daily Sketch Group. (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=146276)
It's probably the last update I'll make for a while because
school starts again tomorrow. *sign*

Grabbed an old whale sketch (it was just a simple whale with an extra pair of fins), mixed it a bit with a chinese dragon and liked what came out.
I'm not sure if I'm gonna refine the lines and use those
or just leave the lines out...
If I'm gonna use the lines I'm not sure if I'm going to do a detailed,
stylized or art nouveau kind of colouring.
*scratches head*
Coloured it a bit to see if the layering in the body was right but I'm
not sure what colours I'm gonna use.
Also, an updated (or finished) version of the swine is coming up...
