Great stuff!
Are you the same POPEYE from Sijun Speedpaint?
Rusty
October 19th, 2003, 10:24 PM
some of those show some real promise popeye,My only advice is maybe try not to be to refined with your lines, the drawing of the gnome looking character holding the fabric is nice an loose,..
personaly i like to traceback over a roughed out drawing onto another piece of paper..
keep at it m8

Xia: you are right and thanks!and it seems like this place is more appropriate to post sketch than the speedpainting thread.
Rusty:you are right and sometimes i just cant help refining those lines, which may actually ruin the freshness of the drawing.so do u use light box to trace your drawing or the other way?
btw i want to see your drawing so badly and none of your link is working for me... please post some new stuff!
:)
still some more old stuff.

wow, some really nice stuff here. i think the first post had the strongest drawings, even though the ideas for all of the drawings are really killer. the head studies seem a little muddy and overworked but the photo realistic painting was very very well done. i agree with rusty and i really liked the drawings that had a loose energetic feel to them while showing that you payed attention to them. keep up the good work.

metaphysiks:thanks and i admit that those head studies are pretty lame..i suck at painting.but it kinda interesting that i acutally prefer those muddy sketchy heads than the photocopy, but well..

great work man, boobs-for-eyes gave me a hearty laugh.
I like the quick head-studies paintings. They show that you have a knowledge of the few strokes needed to show head information.
I esp. like the paint of the girl with the swords, something about her expression.
Please stick around the ol' sketchbook thread.

I'm glad you're first term actually, we need more raw talent coming in here. The school's getting a big ego because they think they're "making" the artists, not to mention higher skill level means better classes. Killah, keep at it, can't wait to see more. Peace

good stuff in here. some of it is really funny too.
sometimes the way you use lines to define planes and form reminds me of MacJ (like in the drawings of your teachers. there are better examples, but this is the most recent). Anyway, it looks like you know MacJ, so that's interesting. I'm sure it's possible that there's a professional artist you two are emulating, but since I don't know too many professional artists/illustrators I associate the style w/ MacJ since the first time I saw it was in his works.
Geez, how many times did I mention MacJ, and in someone else's thread for that matter. I really like your stuff too, popeye.

Dang Popeye! These are all great. The woman in the masquerade/renessance dress on this page is just beautiful. I love her mask.
I also seriously dig that demon on the last page. That first sketch of his face in 3/4 view is great. I love his refined facial features.
Also the guy flying through the hoop hair just cracks me up. Geesh... all of these rock man!
I can't wait till Adrian n I head on down south so then we can all get our sketch on! MacJ might be making the trip down with us... just keep your fingers crossed.
Keep it up!
Ok... and your beast of burden is just hilarious and beautiful at the same time. I love how he's holding up the pallette for her to paint her toe nails! hahaha
