Hi,

I am new to this forum, and got very inspired by some artists here. I love lineart, when combined with some coloring.

But whats the best way to create lineart?
I know some of you use oldschool pen/ink on paper, and some make their lineart digital aswell, with a wacom instead of on paper. I like that you can remove and manipulate lineart if you create it digital, but the feeling is not the same as on paper. However, if you use paper, you can't change your line much when it's drawn, and my lines are not that confident yet. How do you cope with this? Do most traditional line artists first make a pencil sketch, then ink the lines? Or do they practice alot, so they get more confident in their lines and can use ink immediately?

Thanks for your time

OK, I am going to try to address each bit, peice by peice.

1-There is no "best way" to produce line art. The key is to just keep practicing, looking at other people's work, studying and sketching. You will ultimately find something that works for you.

2-Do exactly as you say below, start with a pencil sketch. Keep it light, keep it loose, and have fun with it. Don't get too bogged down in making line art but in finding the form. Then, take your pen or brush and do the inking and spotting blacks.

Also, you can use a Felt Tip Nib in a Wacom device to help simulate paper more, but these tips get worn down faster and only add a smaller degree of texture.

So really, just go out there and practice. Then practice some more, then experiment, and practice with that. Then, do a little bit more practicing, before you mix things up by practicing a whole lot more. And after all that is done, and you feel like you have practiced enough...repeat the whole process again forever and ever.

Thanks for your reply!
I will just sketch, sketch, sketch and experiment with lineart after my sketches are done.
